Today Teague was finally allowed to love on Kaitlyn again.
Month: October 2014
Ready for our Pumpkin Carving Party.
Wade and I debated about hosting our Pumpkin Carving Party this year. We finally decided to host and sent out the invitation. After getting a few responses, Teague’s surgery was scheduled over the weekend of the party. I floated changing the date and that seemed to actually work better for some people. Then Amanda invited a few new couples from church. Suddenly we had more than enough people for the party (and just might have had more than ever in Milwaukee). The kids were left to their own devices and loved running around outside and eating all the candy and cookies. The adults talked (and ate) and carved a few pumpkins. Kaitlyn was claimed by Katie and then Jill until she finally had to go to bed. Impressively she slept through the loudest parts of the party and a few little boys going into her room, turning on the lights, and then running out. We took the group photo early before a few families had to leave but we had people well past dark. Wade even equipped the little ones with flashlights for continued play outside. (Note the bandage on Wade’s hand – he managed to break his hand earlier this week.)
I’m pretty sure Alex only chose “Dolphin Tale 2” as his scholastic book because it came with a stuffed dolphin. He has glanced at the book, but played with the dolphin since he got off the bus.
Breakfast buddies.
The last few weeks we have been emailing with Teague’s doctor in Boston. He mentioned we should be having quarterly eye checkups locally. Teague had his first real eye exam this week. Not surprisingly, his left eye is not as strong as his right. The doctor felt that this could be corrected, but recommended six hours of patching a day. Poor Teague. We’ve only ever had to patch for two hours a day so this is a big change.
We go back in January and will re-evaluate at that time.
Alex joins in with the Legos just to destroy Teague’s creations. Then he moves on to something else. (Teague being a great sport just says, “I don’t mind.”)
I should count how many hours a day Teague play with Legos.
And suddenly she’s fine with tummy time.
These two loved on each other all morning. Then I took Teague to the doctor and learned he has Hand, Foot, Mouth (again). Oops.
Teague had been complaining of his mouth hurting, which should have been a red flag. Instead I ignored it for a few meals before I realized that is what happened this past summer with Hand, Foot, Mouth. I normally wouldn’t have done anything about it except that Teague had surgery scheduled in Boston for next week. I took him to the doctor hoping it was something that could be treated with antibiotics and surgery could still happen. Nope. Viral and surgery has to be postponed to November.
Alex has been begging to carve a pumpkin all week. We finally gave in and got out our carving tools.
This one – always with his hands in his pockets.
Thankfully Kaitlyn seems to really enjoy her play mat.
Someone borrowed my pen again.
These two…
It takes a village to make soup for dinner. It was one of those stormy, cold days. Alex was out of school so he joined Kaitlyn and I on our morning errands (including the grocery). During nap I decided creamy chicken noodle soup sounded perfect for dinner. The only problem was I had no celery or French bread. The heavy rain hadn’t let up all day and I just wasn’t sure I could face three car seats in the rain for another trip to the grocery. I posted my predicament on Facebook and Jill, a girl from my church, quickly offered celery and croissants with a minivan drop off. I decided to take her up on her offer (thank you for attached garages) and ran to her house to get the necessary ingredients. The kids didn’t even wear shoes or coats and never got wet. Dinner was excellent!
“I AM NOT GRUMPY! I DO NOT NEED A NAP!”
I love library days.
Kaitlyn was really interested in my chicken noodle soup prep.
Everyone wanted to be with Kaitlyn this morning.
I’m not sure what Alex was doing over my shoulder, but he got great laughs out of Teague and Kaitlyn.
We had a Pinterest soccer mom in charge of snacks today at soccer. Look at the cool purple candied apple (in addition to the purple-sprinkled, chocolate-covered pretzel sticks, and the individual box with cut fruit, peanut butter container, and wet wipe) she made for each member of the Purple Monsters soccer team!
Instead of reading books, Wade has been making up stories (with requested characters) for bedtime. Tonight the boys wanted another story about Emerald, Chitter, and Chatter – all fairies.
Soccer was COLD this morning.
A little reading before bed.
Snuggles with Daddy.
One of my Mom’s good friends makes awesome hats (among other things) for kids. She made Alex a hat when he was born (see here) and Kaitlyn has a similar one in pinks and purples. She evidently made one of Melissa’s girls a witch hat. They can no longer wear it so it was passed on to Kaitlyn. It’s perfect for the season!
Photo-worthy pout.
I was in my basement office when I thought I heard footsteps upstairs. I assumed Teague was up from his nap and would come to my office like normal. I kept hearing footsteps and 15 minutes later went to check on him. He was quietly playing legos in the living room.
Testing out the exersaucer.
Last week I received an email from Alex’s teacher. The school focuses on a certain character trait each month. At the end of the month, each teacher chooses a student that shines in that area. Alex was chosen for the month of September – responsibility. I was invited to the school assembly and got to see Alex run through the tunnel of teachers and then receive all of his goodies/rewards. Alex got to leave school with me so of course we went for some celebratory ice cream!
Alex said he had some work to do and wanted Kaitlyn to sit in her “blue thing” and watch him.
Teague’s new blue car has been in his pocket (during waking hours) for the last three days. We definitely don’t leave home without it.
I will freely admit most pictures of Kaitlyn and Madison are posed. Today is an exception. I walked over to check on Kaitlyn and realized Madison had crawled in with her.
Life skills being taught by older brother to younger.
Teague tried so hard to make tummy time fun for Kaitlyn. He even brought out his new blue cars.
Just watching the craziness of morning.
When I got home yesterday, I thought Alex must have dressed himself – orange long sleeve shirt under a red t-shirt, jeans, and crocs. I made a comment and by Wade’s reaction I realized Alex had had some help picking out clothes. (Or at least Wade hadn’t seen anything wrong with it.) We kind of let the subject drop until Wade saw Alex’s new shirt today. Then he wanted to know how that shirt (and its crazy color combos) was any better than Sunday’s shirts. I couldn’t explain it, but I felt there was a definite difference.
Lego city.
B gave this blue viper to Teague and he hasn’t let go of it since – even to nap.
I think grabbing the toys was an accident, but it’s still a first.
We started the day with a little hide-n-seek, a few haircuts, and then a lot of driving. Both kids were ready for a break by St. Louis so we stopped at the mall (and I ran into Hanna Andersson).
When Dad’s best friend from high school works on a NASCAR team you get free tickets to the race.
Harper and Teague were inseparable this weekend.
