Alex came downstairs and asked how to clean his bedroom windows – inside and out. Who is this child!? I tried to hire him to clean all the windows in the house but he wasn’t interested.
Month: March 2022
I woke up from my nap to find Teague napping beside me. It was definitely a cold, dreary day for it. (Yes, Teague’s eyes don’t close all the way when he sleeps. Freaky, right?)
Soccer season starts today – first practice!
We tried out a new library today.
Ben and I spent the morning with friends at a local library. I had heard great things about the Uxbridge library, but I had never been. It has a wonderful children’s area and we were the only ones there. The kids played and the moms talked – perfect for a rainy day.
And the leaf blower is back!
Kaitlyn has been spending every free minute outside. Ben often joins her. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked up and saw that Alex had joined in the fun this afternoon. He was chasing the two little ones with a power ranger gun and a water gun. Ben and Kaitlyn thought this was hilarious. I thought the moment was too good to pass up without taking pictures.
Alex showed up this morning and started opening every cabinet door and drawer in the kitchen. Then he told me it was a challenge to see how fast he could close them. The other kids though it was hilarious. He left as quickly as he arrived.
Teague has a little to learn when it comes to jumping rope…
Kaitlyn and I worked out a deal and the end result was a jump rope she has been wanting and wanting.
Ben has been begging to go hiking for three days. He even picked out a particular shirt and vest and had it laid out on his chair waiting. Due to previous commitments, this was the first day we had free time. Today’s temperature was 20 degrees, but that didn’t bother Ben and a promise is a promise.
She was just begging to have her picture taken this morning.
Having big kids just gets better and better. Time got away from me tonight and suddenly I was short on time for making dinner. I needed to be cooking and also needed a quick run to the grocery. I jokingly asked Alex to go. The boys have been walking to a nearby gas station for the last year but it wouldn’t have what I needed. The grocery store is close but a little too far to walk, or so I thought. Alex quickly said he could do it and off he went. It was amazing! I finished cooking about the time he reappeared with lettuce, tomato, and avocado!
Early morning – breakfast making and dishwasher unloading.
The fun job of the day? Sharpening all the pencils in the pencil box.
Ben always wants the glitter play dough. The questions is, does he want it because it’s his sister’s? Or does he want it because he likes the glitter and purple? (Either seems reasonable.)
Church ready.
I had promised Teague another skiing trip for his birthday but it took me a while to come through. Today I finally followed through. I knew the mountain was only one two more weekends and we had a great day. There was less snow, and fewer runs open, but nobody on the mountain! Pros and cons. We had a great time!
Wade’s latest project is adding string lights to our back patio. Alex was happy to help (after he used up his electronics time).
Teague is going to have every line in this book memorized..
Kaitlyn spends hours outside after school. Sometimes she just runs, but most of the time she is on her scooter.
This boy needs a bigger bike!
Our local firemen and policemen held an event today to hand out bike helmets. I invited all of the kids, but wasn’t surprised when only Ben and Kaitlyn wanted to join me. We got the new helmets and then spent quite a while touring the firetruck, police car, and the police motorcycle. The kids loved it!
The boys alternate chores – taking out the recycling and unloading the dishwasher. Alex was determined to take all of the recycling out in one trip today.
It’s tough to decide between reading and napping. Teague was trying to do both.
Dancing in the rain. (Every kid loves an umbrella)
We have thoroughly enjoyed our new reality of no masks and no real talk of COVID. Then we got a notice from Ben’s school. Evidently one of the kids in his class tested positive. According to some kind of guideline, that means Ben has to take a COVID test every morning before school.
Alex stayed home from school today (sore throat and a cough) and he was done with school work by 11. He asked if he could cook and I quickly agreed. He was excited to make a Raddish recipe – pull apart pizza. He did a great job and had a yummy lunch.
Chocolate chip pie sounds perfect for a treat tonight.
Another mother and I helped with Kaitlyn’s class party today. Kaitlyn was a little hesitant to be silly so her teacher jumped right in to convince her it was fun.
I left all the kids at home while I ran to the grocery. When I returned, Elmo had appeared.
Today was crazy hair day and Kaitlyn really wanted to participate. We weren’t smart enough to plan ahead so we were limited by the materials we had on hand. With a little help from Pinterest, we came up with putting her hair in a bun and using ribbon and cellophane to make her hair look like a piece of candy. It wasn’t Pinterest-worthy, but it turned out pretty well.
Cookies, anyone?
Teague has a new two-book series and is determined to read it back-to-back after school today. (He has already read it through once.)
Kaitlyn couldn’t wait for school today – Pajama Day!
Bookworm reading outside the book closet.
I haven’t posted about home improvements in quite a while. Last summer while I was gone, Wade redid the insides of two of our hall closets. One had no shelves and the other was originally a coat closet. I had asked him to put nice built-in shelves in both of them. The upstairs closet is next to Ben’s room and is a book closet. (We’ve had a book closet in every house and it works well for my bookworms.)
He looks much too old. I still can’t believe I have a teenager.
This guy has napping down to an art.
Kaitlyn cooked dinner tonight. She has loved having her own Raddish subscription!
KitKat has been napping with Ben lately and it is the sweetest thing. She shows up when we start reading a book and stays even while Ben bounces around before he settles down to sleep.
KitKat got a new pillow for Christmas but it’s never quite found a home. It recently ended up in my office and today KitKat spent the entire day right by my side. It was pretty sweet to have her snoozing beside me all day while I worked.
Alex started this as a joke. Then he realized there was quite a bit more left in the jug than he anticipated, but he was committed and carried through.
I love when Teague helps out with the cooking.
This cat is so patient with the kids. She (really a he) allows all the love and then disappears at the first opportunity.
A sweet treat on this crazy day.
Ben and I agreed that this day needed cookies. We decided on Rice Krispie treats with M&Ms. Yum!
Spring can’t come soon enough. I love having everyone outside again.
Our newest yard game – tetherball.
When we moved into our house, the barn had a tetherball pole. It’s been a couple of years, so we finally decided to put it to use. Wade bought a ball and finally dug a hole. The kids loved having a new game in the yard and I loved having everyone outside.
