Valentine’s Day Loot
Month: February 2020
Ben is just the happiest kid!
I had thought this post would be about our Valentine’s activities. Instead the most memorable part of the day happened after dinner. My mom wanted to treat us to dinner and the kids chose sushi. As we were cleaning up, Kaitlyn was dancing around the kitchen with her chopsticks and managed to impale herself. It was deep enough I decided we should at least get it checked out at the ER. We spent several hours there before Kaitlyn got several stitches and a new stuffed animal. She was a champ and handled it really well. The only part I could have done without is when she told the staff that she had been there before and knew exactly what to do. (She even told them all about the stuffed animal she got last time…)
Teague loves to wrap up in his blanket. Today that ended up in him looking like a little old woman.
That TV stare.
My lefty loves to color, but has no interest in holding a marker the right way.
This year I only had two kids that were participating in Valentine’s Day card exchanges. Wade is always a saint when it comes to helping me execute the ideas I find on Pinterest and this year was no different. He creates the cards and sometimes assembles, but this year I proudly did the assembly!
Do you see that navy blue thing to the left? That is his laundry bag. He waits till laundry day to actually put the clothes inside it. So annoying to a Mom.
Drawing. Always drawing.
Hello sunshine.
Blankets and loveys. Ben thinks you can’t have enough.
Ben had a lot of fun playing in Daddy’s closet today.
Everybody loves a birthday picture with the birthday hats.
Today we celebrated Alex from morning till night. We started with powdered donuts and ended with ice cream cake. There were presents – most of which were Playmobil dragons from How To Train Your Dragon. It was a pretty great day!
Teague celebrated 100 days of school by dressing up as if he was 100. I attempted to do a little make-up on his face to help the look, but we both agreed I was pretty bad at it. We quickly washed it off before taking a picture.
Everyone is enjoying a family bedtime book right now – The Indian in the Cupboard. (It was one of my favorite’s as a child.)
Ben helped me do the clean up in Teague’s room before I did touch up painting.
Patiently waiting for the rest of us to be ready for church.
Teague the baker is baking again.
That pout is my favorite.
This boy stacks everything all day long.
Ben was showing some early signs of being ready for potty training so I decided to give it a try. My other kids were all 28 months and Ben seemed on track to actually be ready a little earlier. The others were really simple and took a few days and we were done. Ben has thrown me for a loop. He definitely understands the concept but cooperates at his discretion. He definitely is not potty trained in just a few days, but has enough success that I don’t want to quite give up yet….
Today was spent jumping off beds!

Today the kids transformed Kaitlyn’s room into a jumping paradise. They had a blast and in a carpeted room with tons of pillows and blankets, nobody got hurt!
Ben has spent the day stacking these blocks, but Alex wanted in on the fun too!
Cookie time!
That’s one way to get a manicure.

We have never had children with neat handwriting. At first we thought it was because Alex was a lefty. Then we thought it might be because Teague had trouble with depth perception (his eye doctor said this was not the case). Finally we chalked it up to having boys. Now we have Kaitlyn. She had no interest in learning her letters or writing until this year. Suddenly we began to see papers come home and they were neat and easy to read. Wade and I both complimented her on her neat handwriting and commented on how much neater her handwriting was than her brothers’ (trying to prompt some improvement in theirs). Suddenly she presented us with this:
A rare afternoon treat – TV while Mom irons.
Has anyone seen Ben?
Ben and I decided to spend our afternoon making Rice Krispie Treats – with M&Ms of course!
Morning routines.
I have to admit that I have trouble thinking of Pepper as a good dog – especially when I am comparing her to Madison. Pepper is a fine dog. I have no issues with her. But Madison will always be the best dog and I wasn’t quite ready for a dog when we added Pepper to our family. Thankfully there is lots of love in our house and she is a fine addition. She is also really good with family members (not so much anyone else), and especially Ben.
Swedish meatballs are on the menu tonight.
Games before bed.
Kaitlyn loves all things girly – except dolls. That particular interest comes and goes. Today Kaitlyn wanted to wear matching pajamas with her doll and spent quite a while snuggling and reading with her doll too. Adorable.
Alex has been creating again.
Homework is top of everyone’s list tonight.
Tonight’s homework – sounding out words.
Today we played trains.
The assignment was for everyone to pick their favorite outfit and act silly. The kids did a pretty good job I think.
Sunday mornings are not overly chaotic at our house. Thankfully we are early risers and therefore, most of us are ready well before church begins. That usually leads to some downtime before walking out the door. Today I found two playing on Alexa and one reading. There was also a child missing. That child likes to procrastinate in the strangest ways so he rarely appears fully dressed on time.
My new favorite picture of my four.
My Mom gifts everyone in the family UK shirts every year. This year we decided to gift her a picture of everyone wearing the shirts!
Brothers making cookies.
Kaitlyn didn’t want to make the cookies, but she did want to decorate her brothers’ cookies.
