She’s already trying to claim Alex’s work as her own.
Month: November 2015
Alex has had a little obsession with Ninja Turtles lately.
Cars. Cars. Cars.
Just a little morning reading.
He’s been waiting all week to buy this at the book fair. Thankfully our neighbor ran the book fair and put one aside for him. I hear they ran out quite a while ago.
My cookie baking helper.
We attended “Cookies with Clifford” tonight at Alex’s school. Kaitlyn wouldn’t leave Clifford alone. She wanted to hug him, touch his nose, and have him pick her up.
(The poor teenage boy inside was a wonderful sport.)
We had a stormy, rainy day. I thought Kailtyn might enjoy wearing rain boots like her brothers. WRONG. She screamed the entire time they were on and I finally took them off and carried her home from the bus stop.
During our dinner preparations the power flickered a few times. The boys decided it was best to be prepared and ate dinner with their headlamps on their heads. They also spent the entire dinner trying to convince Wade and I to turn off the main breaker to the house and have a “blackout night.” (This actually sounds very cool and is definitely in the works but not 10 minutes before bedtime.)
Alex’s class has been talking about working under distractions. I really think he’s got it figured out by now.
Homework at the soccer fields.
Teague got smart and brought himself some entertainment.
She thinks she’s ready for two hours of soccer sidelines.
Kaitlyn has been eating apples for a while. She started with pureed and took a while to eat the small cubes. When I started to give her slices (like her brothers) she really started to eat them. Yesterday it was freezing cold and I was desperate to get her to wear a hat outside without screaming bloody murder. I decided to give her a full apple to eat and then put a hat on her head. With her hands busy, she couldn’t pull the hat off. It worked like a charm. What amazed me is she ate that apple all day. In fact, at the end of the day she had barely the seeds left (meaning she ate more of a whole apple than either of my boys can eat).
My kids have always loved apples. But at the current rate we go through about 6-7 a day….
Alex took over decorating his eye patch tonight – then he realized he drew on it upside down.
No problem – we just took the picture upside down.
(It’s a ninja.)
Teague was pretty proud of his chosen sticker placement.
Water bottle thief.
Alex ended up with an early morning dental appointment and a late afternoon eye appointment. Thank goodness Granny and Pop were able to spend the day in town and watching Teague and Kaitlyn. The dental appointment was quick and painless but they did use a touch of gas and a numbing shot so Alex had a funny feeling mouth. We were done so early Alex still had time to read a book with Granny before catching the bus for school.
I picked Alex up early from school for his eye exam. He had his yearly checkup with the same doctor Teague visited a month ago (she was awesome). Alex was a good sport about working on his homework while we waited and had no trouble with all the tests, eye drops, and discussions. The surprising part came when the doctor found quite a bit of discrepancies from his last exam. His prescription needed to change significantly and she recommended patching one eye for three hours a day. (What are the chances I would have to go through patching with two different children for completely different reasons?)
Sometimes you go for an annual eye exam expecting a new prescription and come home with directions to patch for three months.
“Granny, will you play cars with me?”
This little monkey wanted to try an obstacle course today.
He has his own style.
(And understands “strike a pose.”)
A 4 year old’s speedy attempt at buttons last night.
(He didn’t want to miss any of Granny’s bedtime reading.)
Quality time with Pop and Elmo.
Alex seems to end up in a “Full-fledged Burch lock” quite a bit. The other two were trying to help him escape.
For some strange reason, Alex and Teague both had the day off school. Wade decided to take the day off work and we planned a grand adventure. We strategically arranged the car seats to get everyone in the same car and drove downtown for lunch and the Field Museum of Natural History. It took a while to get downtown, but the kids managed to pass the time.
Alex has wanted to explore the Field Museum since we moved to Chicago. Today he got his wish.
Teague took a little nap on our drive to downtown Chicago.
Bedtime books with Granny.
Let indoor soccer begin.
Let indoor soccer begin.
Kaitlyn actually took this picture of Alex. I was showing her how to take pictures with my camera and she snapped this one!
Teague’s first checker game all by himself.
(It required quite a bit of help from Dad, but he did it.)
It has been impossible to keep Kaitlyn off the kitchen table. I’ve tried moving the kitchen chairs away from the table and she just moves them closer and then climbs. Tonight they were pushed all the way into the table (which evidently never happens at our house) and she seemed quite confused and unhappy with the results.
I realized Reggie doesn’t get pictured very often. He is still around. He is also still very grumpy. No matter how much attention we give him, he still is quite prickly and unhappy. We take care of him and interact with him, but he has not been the cute fun-loving hedgehog we had envisioned. He seems quite happy in his cage and runs on his wheel all the time so we figure life is good.
Alex has been complaining about his soccer cleats being too small for a few games. Then we forget until the next time he puts them on and we have to be at a game in 15 minutes.
Tonight we bought new soccer shoes – for the indoor games that start on Thursday. He is extremely excited about the neon color.
Proudest driver around.
(And most indifferent passenger.)
She heard “pizza” for dinner and ran to the oven.
Our afternoons are pretty much all the same – in a very good way. Kaitlyn and I pick Teague up from school at 11:15. We almost always meet his friend at “the rock” outside for jumps. After a few jumps (and a few hugs), we head to our car and there’s normally a few more hugs before we get into our car and head home.
Then the kids and I always have lunch at home. Teague is guaranteed to pick a cheese-based lunch if given a choice – grilled cheese, broccoli and cheese soup, summer sausage and cheese, cheese quesadilla, macaroni and cheese, etc. Kaitlyn is pretty agreeable to trying anything and is much more likely to actually eat it if Teague feeds her. On this particular day she even managed to get out of her high chair and into Teague’s chair to share his lunch – because of course his food taste better than hers.
Disguising a turkey as a hedgehog – first grade homework.
Teague and his buddy jump off this rock over and over after preschool almost every day.
There is something about a baby playing with babies.
Alex really wanted to be paid for raking leaves. Wade finally agreed to pay him, if he got every single leaf off the deck and the trampoline….
He takes his job very seriously.
