Local shopping is all the rage these days. You can’t get any more local than the market in my sunroom. I had the cutest shopkeeper too. (Wade’s market is one of my top favorite things he has ever built. The red checkered awning was lost in the move from Chicago to Grafton but it’s on the short list to be replaced this summer.)

Today’s ballet recital was a vast improvement over last year’s. Last year was a mess in an un-air conditioned sweatbox. Wade ended up with all three boys and missed Kaitlyn’s dance because Ben had a dirty diaper at exactly the wrong moment. Today we left the boys at home with Ben’s babysitter. Wade and I throughly enjoyed Kaitlyn’s dancing. Then we let her choose lunch – she of course chose McDonald’s and fell asleep in the car on the way!
We did 75% of this move ourselves. We have done it in small trips in our cars. We did it in Pop’s truck when they visited. We still have lots of little loads to go. However, we hired our favorite movers for a few hours to move the heavy, awkward, and fragile items. These guys are awesome. They came. They were friendly and polite. They were nice to my kids. They worked fast. They didn’t complain. They ended up moving items we didn’t anticipate that will save us so much headache later (i.e. way overpacked boxes of books). Most importantly – They listened.
My mom is here to help me move. We are tackling one decorated space at a time. The theory is she will help me get the “pretty” spaces from the old house to the new and I can do the inside cabinets and closets later when she is gone. Today we worked on the living room shelves and the exposed shelves in the kitchen. Kaitlyn offered her services in between iPad time.
We embraced the holiday weekend with several dips in the pool and a sleepover on the third floor of the new house. It took a little figuring to get the the AC on the third floor just right. But the kids were content to play air hockey (thank you previous owners) while the top floor cooled down and then we all watched a movie and conked out!
Granny And Pop are here to help us begin moving. They drove Pop’s truck up and are here for longer than usual to help us out. We are so thankful the new house is bigger and has a large basement and barn. We have the keys to our new house and our goal is to move quite a bit of “stuff” out of our current house to the new house. We are going to list our current house and cross our fingers that it sells within a few weeks. If it doesn’t, then we are going to go ahead and move into the new house and try to sell the house with no furniture. We’ve sold all but one of our previous houses within a few weeks so we are hoping for the best.
These four got some good quality snuggles in this morning.
