Alex being Alex.
Month: October 2022
(Teague – T-rex, Kaitlyn – Elsa, Ben – light up stickman)
Halloween is always a little more tricky when it’s on a school night, but the kids were up to the challenge. We started the night at one of my friend’s houses for a little party (pizza, bouncy house, etc). The best part is she lives on South St – THE Street for trick or treating. The street is closed down and people come from all over. There is a definite party atmosphere with music, glow sticks, and candy – lots of candy. Alex joined us for dinner but headed home afterwards to watch an outdoor movie with friends. We met up with some of Kaitlyn’s friends and proceeded up and down the street.
Side note: Ben’s costume was the best! Having him in a costume with lights made it so easy to keep up with him! I’m going to try to push a light up costume of some kind next year too!
Alex decided to go to church youth group at the last minute – which required a costume. We came up with a “burglar.”
Teague offered to help out with my chores today and I gladly took him up on it!
Tonight there was a dance party!
Today was a sticker day.
Today was the Trunk or Treat at our church. We had a whirlwind day full of activities, so Wade and Ben went first in the minitruck (our “trunk”). I arrived with the other kids and then we got to the candy portion of the afternoon. Ben loved running wild, Alex loved scaring little kids in the “Scary Hallway,” and the other two loved traditional candy acquiring.
Alex and a huge group of teenagers showed up after school today. He likes to have his friends over but sometimes his friends come with more friends. Alex came inside several times to tell me he wasn’t sure he wanted that many people at his house. I told him to roll with it and meet some new people. He came in a few more times but seemed to enjoy himself overall. Some days he wants to be social and some days he wants to do work on his own projects.
My yard was full of teenagers today. Alex informed me he only knew half of them and really wanted them to leave so he could code (his new project). I told him he should go make some new friends.
A little fun with green onions.
Cinnamon toast for breakfast please.
Ben has a little problem of chewing on things when he is distracted. We try to make sure he has a lovey on hand so that he isn’t chewing on my couch pillows or his clothes…
Teague has a new book series and is flying through the books.
Kaitlyn made pretzel bites yesterday and they were immediately gobbled up. Alex requested them again today so Kaitlyn agreed to make them again.
Kaitlyn tried a new Raddish recipe tonight and it was a winner! She cooked pretzel bites and they were devoured in minutes!
It’s a rare morning that all four of my kids are in the kitchen at the same time.
Teague has always struggled with his handwriting. Now we are finding that lack of neatness is carrying over to his Math. The problem comes when his teacher wants to give partial credit but can’t follow his work enough to do so. Below you can see what we are working on…my work and Teague’s. It’s a work in progress.
We were all doing a million things and needed some help in the kitchen. Alex jumped in to trim the chicken.
Teague got bored waiting for me to check his homework and decided a nap was a good option.
Kaitlyn cooked dinner for us tonight!
This boy picked out two packs of socks last night (3 pairs each in a pack). Of course he mixed up the pairs on his feet. Then he wants to wear two on on his hands. Sure! Why, not? That bag contains all the extra pairs because you might need a spare. Now we are off to take Alex to the dentist.
Wade spent the weekend working on leaf pickup. That of course means that the kids spent the weekend outside playing in the leaves.
He and I were both laughing that the majority of his pictures are of him doing chores or on his computer, but those are the main reasons he comes out of his room these days…
Wade is out of town this week so everybody has to go with me when I go to school early for Fun Run reasons. They didn’t seem to upset…
Ben got new socks today (he picked them out) and couldn’t wait to wear them.
Wade took Kaitlyn to her game and I had to join them a little late. It turns out I missed her goal at the very beginning. Darn it! It was still a great game!
I tried to be on top of things and take the Sunday picture before church – nobody liked hat idea (even if I did get a few smiles).
Kaitlyn has been doing cheer for three years and we have been going to Lowell, MA for competitions three years now. It’s about an hour away and we have always had to be there VERY early. This year was different. We didn’t have to arrive till 2:45. I didn’t factor in that that would make parking a little trickier and getting home very late. The girls did a great job but didn’t place high enough to move on to the next round.
I tried to convince all the kids to play in the leaves. This is what Alex gave me before heading back inside.
Ben eventually convinced Teague to join him in some leaf play.
Cheer competition today!
Wade was working on leaf removal today and Ben stayed outside all day “helping.”
Alex hung out with me while I cooked dinner tonight and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
“Kung Fu cookie making”
Proof that they do get along – sometimes.
This morning there was frost on the ground and very chilly temperatures. I tried to convince Ben to wear a hat to school. He left it on long enough for me to take a picture. He didn’t want to mess up his hair and just wasn’t ready for hat season…
Today was the day! The kids’ biggest fundraiser of the year for their school. Being on the PTG board, I was heavily involved all week and spent the day taking pictures of the event. The run was a huge success and we almost doubled the goal we set!
Alex had an accident and broke his monitor. The new one arrived today and he was so excited when the new one arrived.
Fun Run! Teague ran 35 laps like a pro.
Fun Run! She ran 35 laps like a champ.
Ben got a little lost in the shuffle today, but he was a trooper and entertained himself while Wade worked and I worked the Fun Run.
It’s the time of year that school pictures are starting to arrive.
Alex was so excited to get the new phone case he picked out.
Sometimes a nap seems like a better choice than getting started on the homework.
