Ben being Ben – mismatched pajamas, a cape made from a dishtowel, and a banana sticker on his forehead.
Ben
Ben had his book character parade today. He loves his chicken costume so we went with the book “Chicken Little.”
Ben has a sweet smile on his face, but look in the background. You will see Wade repairing the lamppost. Ben has run into it multiple times with the gokart and knocked the light off at least twice. The last time was the point of no return and Wade is now installing a new light.
I walked by Ben’s room to hear him attempting to read “Dog Man” – a book way beyond his current reading level. It was still adorable to listen to.
Making pizzas for dinner.
Sunday Lineup. Because it’s fall they wanted to pose on a hale bale.
Granny sent a Halloween box. Amazingly, all the kids were home to open it and call her to thank her.
These guys can’t wait for Friday nights and a new episode of Lego Masters.
Fun Run today!
Ben is always up for a good pose.
On crazy school nights, we watch TV all together.
Ben brought home his normal worksheets, but on the back of one of those sheets, he had obviously done some extra work. Instead of just finding a sight word or finding the first sound in a word, Ben was working on rhyming sounds.
Sunday lineup.
Soccer!
Fall activity list:
Soccer – 1 hour on Saturday
Swim – 30 minutes on Tuesday
Ben reads a couple of books to me each night to practice his reading. Then I say goodnight and go downstairs. Most nights I can hear him upstairs still reading out loud and sounding out new words. It’s adorable. None of my other kids had quite this desire to read everything all the time at this age.
Monster truck kind of morning.
Ready for school.
Ben and I decided to show Kaitlyn the view from the top of Mount Watatic.
Saturday night movie night.
Ben was on a mission to make donuts this morning. It meant a second breakfast for Kaitlyn, but everyone was happy to partake.
Mr. Independent.
A chicken appeared in my kitchen today and wanted to dance.
Ben – 10 minutes after walking in the door from school.
Amazon wish books have arrived. I’m not quite sure how or why we got two, but it made for two happy kids.
I opened Facebook to find a picture of on his school’s page and this caption, “Increasing our independence at Kindergarten lunch! Check out all the students who can open their own milk….and it’s only the 23rd day of school!!!”
Sunday Lineup.
I have no idea what game was being played, but it was hilarious to watch him cocoon himself in the umbrella.
The school posted this photo today and I asked Ben about the circumstances behind it. He said he was giving the thumbs up in response to how he felt about the Mac & Cheese Pizza.
Monkey Balloon Pop – everybody’s favorite evening game.
Ben got really excited during lunch to use his sight word cards to create a “story” (otherwise known as a sentence).
Kaitlyn convinced me to buy the “special” Lucky Charms. She was so excited to see the dragon marshmallows transform she even wanted to put milk in her cereal. She hasn’t had milk in a couple of years (in any form).
Super Ben – wrist bands courtesy of his prize tickets at Apex yesterday.
(Yes, he wore them to school too.)
Sunday lineup.
Ben being Ben.
Our school had its annual back to school picnic tonight. There was an ice cream truck so of course the kids got dessert. The cotton candy was bigger than their heads!
Bus stop reading.
Today the banana phone was all the rage.
Bedtime routines.
“Monkey Balloon Pop” is the favorite game of Ben and Kaitlyn.
(The real game is called Ballon TD6, but Ben has always called it “Monkey Balloon Pop” and now the entire family has adopted it.)
Sunday lineup.
Ben asked for extra chores today (probably wanting extra gaming time) and Wade gave him the job of picking up sticks.
Ben and I always get outside for the bus a little early. Normally we just take out his sight words to practice but the last few days we have also been taking Ben’s books to read too.
These two made a massive pillow fort.
I love that Ben just has to add his own “flair” to everything – a pose, an accessory, a comment, etc. Today he pulled the glove out of his backpack as we were walking to the bus.
Just a boy in a dinosaur costume playing video games.
Alex got Ben off the bus and you could just see that it made Ben’s day.
Ben packed his bag for church, just like normal. We got out of the car and started to walk inside when he told me he needed a minute. I turned around to find that he had taken a minute to get himself “ready.”
Ben had his first soccer practice/game today. He loved every minute of it!
I walked in from taxiing Kaitlyn from soccer practice to cheer practice to find that Ben had decided to feed himself dinner. Thank goodness he had forgotten to tell the teacher he brought his lunch from home yesterday and we put it in the fridge for later.
