Everybody earned their second book of the summer!
Month: June 2015
We had arranged to meet the owners of the Victorian (our preferred way of doing business) and loved what they had to say. The house is old and big and has had minimal renovations – so very little is “messed up” in our opinion. Our major concern at this point was the noticeable lack of children in the neighborhood and the house sits on the corner of a busy street. Wade was going to drop me off at the airport and then drive up to the other house to explore the neighborhood when my flight went through five delays before being cancelled. I was able to schedule a new flight for tomorrow morning. Wade can drop me off early before his first day off work. Thankfully Judy and Jerry were fine staying an additional day. Now I remember why I enjoy flying so much!! Ugh.
Finally Alex gets his watermelon.
(We buy them and then tend to forget and let them sit in the corner for a while before cutting.)
I am not a bit sorry to be out of town and missing this mess. It does look like the boys are having a blast though.
She seems so surprised to find paper all over the floor after just shredding it – and it happens every single day.
Wade and I spent the last few days looking at houses and houses and houses. The first day we were discouraged because we saw three houses and didn’t like a single one. The second day we saw six houses and didn’t like any of those either. Finally on the last day of scheduled viewings we saw a number of houses we liked. Our two favorites were an old victorian in Palatine (see listing here).
and a house in Barrington (see listing here).
Project stuff in Dad’s shop.

This one makes a beeline for the dishwasher anytime the door is open. I have learned to remove the sharp knives first.
(I bet Granny quickly figured that out too.)
It appears that Pop got roped into helping Alex with a project.
Enjoying the day with Granny and Pop.
Granny says these boys loved fried eggplant and these three pieces were all that was left after dinner.
Bathtime.
Pop does bedtime books.
Teague was telling her all about the cake we were baking.
Wade’s last day at Hallmark was last week and he starts his new job at Bosch next week. We have loved having Wade home full-time but that’s going to make it even harder when he’s living in Chicago during the week and we’re still in Kansas City. Today was our normal crazy day, but we did through in a field trip to see how marbles are made.
We took a family field trip today. Marbles are cool.
Doesn’t everyone eat scrambled eggs on the floor?
The boys have loved riding the bus together in the mornings for summer school.
I found this hilarious to watch.
(Kaitlyn gets distracted by the slightest movement or sound and then takes forever to focus again on eating.)
I have been curious to try out the Platte City Pool, but I wanted to do it while I had Wade with me. I knew this was a more traditional pool and I wasn’t sure it was something I could easily do with three kids by myself. It turns out that there is a baby pool and a smaller regular-sized pool. What I love is that 3/4 of the big pool is about 3-4′ deep so Alex can touch and Teague just hangs out on the steps. The pool is in pretty sad shape and this is it’s last year but it’s going to work out just fine for us this summer!
Is it any wonder the boys prefer to have Dad at the pool?
Today we tried out the Platte City pool.
Nothing went as planned today but everyone got a nap.

The kids and I ventured out to the pool today. This was my first time solo with all three and it was no problem. Kaitlyn made the trip perfect by confirming she definitely is walking (I thought I had seen a few steps the last few days, but hadn’t been sure.). She took three steps in a row as we were leaving.
Three monkeys in the bed.
Kaitlyn loves the water. She happily takes a shower and chooses to sit directly under the spray. I shouldn’t have been surprised over Memorial weekend when she figured out “jumping in” from the side at 10 months old.
Teague wanted to watch a movie with me while Kaitlyn napped. You see what happened pretty quickly.
This kept both of them entertained till the bus came – awesome morning activity.
Choosing a snack is a difficult decision.
Group hug.
After months of trying and numerous different brands, Kaitlyn finally drinks from a sippy cup.
(This one is going to be trouble. My other two drank from the cups I gave them – no issues.)
This flashlight magically made it home with Teague from Gram’s house. It has been in his hand (or pocket) ever since.
Shoe eater.
With all this crazy rain, the kids and I decided to hike to the bottom of our ravine and see how much the water had risen.
(Even with flooding everywhere around us the waterline is pretty much the same.)
As good as it gets when you ask three kids to hold up their new books from the library summer reading program.
