Silly things always happen when Wade gives baths (which is most nights).
Month: November 2013
We got snow today!!
The boys love to blow up these balloons and then watch them fly all over the room.
(Madison hates it so she was left inside and the boys took over the sunroom.)
Learning about dinosaurs with Dad.
Anytime I talk on the phone (to anyone), Teague will repeat “my turn” over and over.
Pajama Day at school!
I knew the boys were having a campout in the living room, but I was impressed to see they also built a campfire.
I have been in the mood to try some new recipes and I consulted my handy file folder. Tonight’s winner was Flank Steak with Shiitake Mushroom Sauce. I knew this one had been in there a while, but even I was surprised when I realized it was from a 2006 Cooking Light magazine.
Ingredients
Steak:
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 (1-pound) flank steak, trimmed
Sauce:
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove, minced
2 cups thinly sliced shiitake mushroom caps (about 1/2 pound mushrooms)
1 cup less-sodium beef broth
1/3 cup dry white wine
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup minced green onions
Preparation
Preheat broiler.
To prepare steak, sprinkle salt and pepper evenly over both sides of steak. Place steak on a broiler pan coated with cooking spray; broil 5 minutes on each side or until desired degree of doneness.
Remove the steak from oven; loosely cover with foil.
To prepare sauce, heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Coat pan with cooking spray. Add 1/2 cup onion and garlic; sauté 2 minutes. Add mushrooms; sauté for 4 minutes. Add broth, wine, and vinegar. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium, and cook until reduced to 1 1/4 cups (about 6 minutes). Add green onions, and cook for 1 minute.
Slice steak diagonally across the grain into 1/4-inch slices. Serve steak with mushroom sauce.
Tour club gave Alex his first tennis lesson.
Alex’s “homework” required the entire family to decorate a turkey feather.
Alex was putting up the silverware before bed and found a small packet of wet wipes (like you got when you eat ribs). He was convinced it didn’t belong in the drawer and must have been put there by a monster. This led to drawing a monster trap on paper and then Wade helped him set it up.
Crazy enough the next morning he had caught a monster. (The stool below the hook is in case it is a short monster who needs a little boost.)
Just walking in the rain.
Alex got to skip his nap today and decided to serenade me while I did my work.
I walked in from cooking dinner to find Alex and Teague attempting to play a game together.

Little photographer.
When my friend Amy asked me to run a Jingle Bell 5k with her (in early October), I didn’t hesitate to say yes. She was just about halfway through the couch to 5K program and I thought running together sounded like fun. I got on my computer to sign up and realized the race I expected (based off the name) to be in December was actually November 3rd. That meant I had about three weeks to start running (I had taken a break from pretty much all exercise this past summer/fall). Thankfully this was one of my easiest returns to running and I could do the 3 miles from day one and last week I even managed 4.5 miles.
Today was the race and we had a great time!
The boys came to cheer me on at the race this morning.
The favorite game of the play date? Nerf guns.
Sleep over in Alex’s room.
Guy time.
