“You are welcome”
Month: August 2022
Scientist at work.
Alex had three friends spend the night last night and I woke up this morning to treat them to our favorite local donuts – Rocco’s.
Ben and Kaitlyn pulled out the science tools and begged to do some of the included experiment cards. Kaitlyn picked making slime and Ben chose density – sink or float? Kaitlyn was fascinated by Ben’s experiment and couldn’t wait to do his too.
Last camp day. These kids have actually loved fort building, hiking, fishing, and canoeing. (Well, evidently Kaitlyn screamed during the canoeing. But they loved everything else.) Alex even planned to have all his friends meet him at the lake for a fishing date after camp.
It was Water Wars today at camp. Despite their faces, they had a great time. They just really wanted showers and a change of clothes. (Ben just likes to jump in the camp pictures – he has a few years before he can go.)
It turns out my kids are loving camp. They come home absolutely filthy, but happy and excited to go back the next day. They have been fishing, kayaking, fort building, and practicing archery. (Ben jumped in the picture because he didn’t want to be left out.)
Ben showed up this afternoon and couldn’t wait to have his picture taken. He wanted to show me that he was just like Alex.
I signed all the big kids up for Adventure Camp this week. Some of my kids are more excited than others.
Looks like someone found the chocolate. Now the question is where?
Sunday best – and Ben with a little “extra.” Yes, I completely let him wear both gloves to church – one stolen from Alex’s desk (he uses it for drawing but it’s really from an old Halloween costume) and the other from a set of driving gloves.
We have a lot August birthdays in our family so that means a lot of birthday cards to be mailed. Kaitlyn figured out that she can use her water bottle (which has her name etched in cursive) as guide to signing her name. I was pretty impressed with her ingenuity and she’s getting pretty good at her signature.
Kaitlyn has been begging for this robosnake for weeks. She carefully planned to use some birthday money and has been waiting for a free day for us to go buy it.
Now that our babysitters are home, Wade and I went out on a date and left the kids to spend some quality time together with their electronics.
Wade got the car up and running. Kaitlyn loves it just as much as Ben. They both drive around constantly and Ben loves to haul as many things as possible in the passenger seat.
Alex was so sure he could do a cartwheel and wanted to show us.
Last lake day of the summer.
Practicing cheer – high V.
Last lake day of the summer.
The lake always closes too soon. This is the last week it is open and I knew today was the last day we would be able to go. Sadly there were very few people there but my kids still found plenty of people to play with and we got one last day at Silver Lake.
He wasn’t quite ready for morning either..
She wasn’t quite ready for morning…
They are playing “crack the egg.” Ben is very easy to crack but they both still love to play.
I came back from picking up Kaitlyn to find a gang of big boys in my yard. They arrived on bikes and hung out in the yard all day. First they bounced on the trampoline.
Then, Alex came to ask if they could pull out the blow up waterslide. (Because of their size and it’s intended weight limit, I redirected them to the slip ‘n slide.). They were just as excited for the slip ‘n slide. Most of the boys had bathing suits in their backpacks and were quick to help me set it up. At some point they wanted more speed and I suggested adding Dawn soap…
When they finally got tired of the slip ‘n slide, they moved back to the trampoline and wanted the hose. The hose didn’t reach, so they moved the trampoline. There are perks to having man-size 13 year olds.
Alex had a bunch of friends over today and they played outside all day. I was so surprised when he even let Ben win in the fun.
Teague is still working hard to finish the Lego set Wade bought him.
Pop brought coloring books and crayons for these guys and they have loved them.
Ben convinced Pop to visit his market today.
Alex was ready for a quiet morning.
Wade had a new Lego set waiting for Teague when he got home. Both of them were pretty excited to work on it together.
Kaitlyn had so much fun last week at Gymnastic camp she begged to go back this week – but for the full day. I agreed and this is her second day. She is loving it! (Ben just begged to be in the picture.)
Ben has had a thing for masks lately….
One last day of fun before Pop brings these boys home.
Everyone’s favorite time of day – iPad time!
Kaitlyn had gymnastics camp again today (she wanted to go back this week for full day camp) so Ben and I met some friends at the Splash Pad.
Any visit with Granny an Pop always includes games.
Teague managed to squeeze in another bike ride with Aunt Emmie before she had to leave.
Because our babysitters are out of town, we decided to go out to dinner with the little ones in tow.
I have spent the last few days painting closets. As I was walking down the hallway, I happened to glance at the doorjamb and saw the smallest drawing in pencil. It was immediately obvious to me which child was responsible and they were so cute I decided to leave them. (It didn’t hurt that they were in pencil and not Sharpie.)
Alex has obviously settled into Granny and Pop’s just like he was at home.
Teague found a biking partner in Aunt Emmie.
I was painting all day and Wade was in charge of the kids. He was super Dad and pulled out the waterslide to keep them entertained.

Ben was gifted a new car by one of my friends.. He was so exited when we pulled it out of my van. Then it didn’t run exactly as it should. Of course, Wade immediately began trouble shooting. He should have it fixed in no time at all and I’m so thankful he can fix almost anything.
On our drive home from KY, we stopped at an Applebee’s. Alex had a Passion Fruit Lemonade. I knew he liked it, which was no surprise. He loves to visit Pop and drink his Passion Fruit juice. Evidently he told Granny about the special lemonade and they tried to recreate it and were quite successful.
Teague is not only a Lego building machine at home, but he uses Wade’s old Legos while in Collierville.
Evidently Kaitlyn was the big winner at the ending games today at Gymnastics camp and came home with an alligator pool float.
Since Ben has decided to grow his hair out (he wants a ponytail like Kaitlyn), I decided to experiment a little with it’s longer length. I’m really liking what it can do!
I decided tonight would be a lake day. We had a quick lunch after Kaitlyn’s gymnastics and then headed to the lake. The kids quickly found friends and I always seem to know someone there. I sat and talked to one of my friends all afternoon and the kids played and played.
One of the boys favorite activities to do when they visit Memphis is to visit the farm and practice their driving.
