Another Thursday, another ski lesson. Today he gets to try the chair lift.
Month: January 2022
Wade and I were discussing the latest internet discussion with “wordle.” Kaitlyn heard us and now asks to play everynight, with Wade’s help.
Ben had a friend over today and the living room was full of toys, which I loved.
Ben has been working hard to finish up learning his letters. (If you’ll remember he started learning them over two years ago, but we never quite finished.) He has quite a bit of trouble with E and F, but at some point, he realized that he knows the letters in his name. Then he realized that he can say those letters out loud and something clicks. I finally caught it on video.
Alex got a watch for Christmas and wears it daily. He is convinced it makes him look older.
(He might be right.)
Evenings.
Naptime.
Magnatiles have been the toy of choice in our house lately. Tonight Ben and Kaitlyn took turns building each other into a tower and then knocking them down to get out. It was hilarious!
My kids love when I add chores to their lists. Alex now has to wash his own sheets.
Somehow chores got a little behind this week.
Magna-tiles have been very popular lately.
We had a birthday today! Wade thoroughly enjoyed his day and slept in – so we had donuts without him. Notice that we even took our traditional picture before we started eating. Then we still made Wade blow out his candles when he finally woke up. Since Wade was nice enough to have his birthday on a holiday, we had a lazy day and then took everybody candlepin bowling and out for pizza to end the day.
It’s Wade’s birthday – so we bowled!
It always makes me happy when my kids read. Alex has taken a long break from it so to find him constantly reading these days is awesome.
Alex loves putting away his laundry. Some times he tries to hide them under the mess in his room – but then he gets in trouble. Here he is putting them away under duress – but with a good attitude.
Teague got a craving for cinnamon donuts.
My kids don’t tend to have sensitive skin. Then I sent Kaitlyn back to school after quarantine and she started having trouble with her hands. They would become red, dry, cracked, and swollen. I knew it had to be linked to the hand washing, but I had no idea if it was the soap, hand sanitizer, or just the quantity of all of it. We have tried to figure it out and her teachers have been working with us, but the best thing has been coating her hands in vaseline and then covering her hands in gloves for the night while she sleeps.
Ben was so excited to “exercise” today.
All of my kids go through phases. Lately both Ben and Kaitlyn refuse to go to bed without their bedside lights on. That means I go into their rooms every night before I go to bed to turn them off. It also means, I get one last peek (or picture) before I turn in for the night too.
Alex is making a habit of hanging out with everybody else on Saturday mornings – what is going on?!?
Choo. Choo.
Game time with Dad.
Ben is notorious for running into my closet and hiding behind my clothes – especially when he is supposed to be getting in the shower. He also loves to try on all of my shoes. Today, I happened to pull aside the curtains in my bathroom and found a high heeled shoe. Since I haven’t worn them in months (maybe a year..), then there is no telling how long ago Ben hid it in the window.
We have a rule that Alex isn’t supposed to have his Chromebook in his room. It charges in my office, so often Alex will just sit in my office and use it instead of the kitchen. I don’t mind at all.
He would go every day if he could.
(Mind you, he couldn’t remember his snow pants….)
Class parties are my favorite.
Ben loves to “cook.”
Today was the first grade class party at Kaitlyn’s school. Another mom and I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for this party, but we had a lot of fun helping the kids celebrate.
Booster shot – done!
We introduced Teague to Hunger Games and he has now read all three books at least 6-7 times. We are taking recommendations for book series.
Ben is inside the fort and Kaitlyn is standing guard and reading outside.
I have no idea what game he is playing but I was amused to walk in and find him sitting, rocking, staring at a closed door.
Kaitlyn rarely (if ever) brought artwork home from preschool. Ben brings something home everyday. This week, the kids are learning all about dental health…
I was scrolling on instagram and a hair tutorial popped up. Kaitlyn was interested enough to let me try it on her hair. It turned out pretty cute. We’ll see how it looks after a full day at school.
My big kids alternate morning chores – emptying the dishwasher and taking out the recycling. In the winter, taking out the recycling is definitely the worst.
Teague now not only leaves his socks everywhere, and not only wears two pairs at a time, but has gotten very creative with how he leaves them.
Kaitlyn wanted to do schoolwork so Ben decided to work on some too.
(To be clear, neither actually had actual homework.)
Books. More books.
The sneaky nap still gets Teague every once in a while.
(If you never noticed, he does sleep with one eye open…)
This girl sometimes chooses cars over dolls. I love that she’s still unpredictable.
A little screen time before bed.
Kaitlyn has spent the day writing a poem. She will pop in a read me a line and then disappear to write in her book. Here is her finished poem…
To the forrest we go hunting for a manticore..
I see a unicorn with a manticore.
We wish to get the unicorn so we can make friends with the manticore.
Alex – reading in style.
Kaitlyn was quite amused by Teague’s Tinkercad antics.
Our hero is here! All is saved.
Kaitlyn’s friend invited her to try ice skating for the first time. Because she had never been, I tagged along to get her used to it and then promised next time she could go without me. By the end of the two hours, she was making it around the rink without me, but barely. She seemed to like it and was asking when she could go again. I’m slowly realizing I should have introduced all of my kids to these winter sports years ago.
Kaitlyn asked for a subscription to Raddish kids for Christmas and tonight made her first meal. It was delicious.
Saturday morning cartoons. Rarely do I catch Alex joining in on the fun anymore.
Ben has found all kinds of ways to delay actually falling asleep at nap time. Today I found this “garage” he built for his cars before finally succumbing to sleep.
Snow day!
