Evening laser tag with Dad – their favorite game.
Month: July 2019
A little water play, a little sidewalk chalk.
We have been thoroughly enjoying our summer evenings at our new house. When Wade finishes work we all tend to head outside. Tonight the big boys picked berries. Kaitlyn convinced everyone to join in a game of laser tag.
It’s not a perfect picture, but it’s a candid with all four in the frame. That rarely happens.
Deep thoughts.
She is definitely part fish.
Sand, sand, everywhere.
A family pass to Silver Lake costs $45 for the season. We are definitely getting our money’s worth this year. I still miss the private beach we had access to when we lived in Barrington, but at least we always have friends present here and a snack shop.
The creator created again.
The big boys have quite the collection of funny t-shirts this summer.
Living that lake life.

Wade is not a sand person. He will join us at the pool but he rarely goes to the beach or lake. Today we convinced him to join us at Silver Lake. He came. He saw. We went home. The kids loved having him there, but my guess is Wade probably won’t join us again. He’d much rather leave the lakes and oceans to us. Thanks for coming though!!
The oldest two making more plans for their Burch Bros Bakery.
(In reality, we tend to consume most of their products before they even attempt to set up shop outside.)
The youngest two looking all cute.
This is what happens during a typical meal with Ben. He starts off in his chair in a sitting position. It’s just impossible to keep him there. Teague has the most patience of us all.
Teague still loves to cook. It’s about half and half cookies and Raddish kid recipes – that works for me.
Morning puzzles.
Brothers with matching yogurt mustaches.
You will never guess but we ending back up at the lake again. My crew does much better if we are out of the house and with other people. We are pretty much guaranteed to run into friends at the lake and my kids love water and sand. (They also love the treat they get right before we leave.) Did I mention Ben also takes a particularly long nap after we get home. It’s a win-win for everybody.
Silver Lake
(We discovered elephant ears at the snack bar. They know they get one as soon as I get my picture.)
Today it was back to Silver Lake. Most of our regular lake crew was there.
Alex’s favorite t-shirt this summer.
Silver lake – again.
Ben saw the dentist today. He let them look in his mouth. He even let them brush his teeth – which is more than he lets me do so we will definitely call it a win. This kid has very definite ideas about what he likes and doesn’t like. Thankfully most of the time he is on the “like” side of things. Mom brushing his teeth just happens to fall on the “dislike” side of things.
Crazy cooking.
Morning books.
Morning books.
Ben was here.
Kaitlyn got a bow and arrow for her birthday. Today is the day she is learning to use it. Her brothers have decided they are experts and will teach her…
This slide session lasted less 5 minutes. You win some. You lose some.
The weather this summer has been phenomenal. Today we headed back to our old house and the pool. It’s not too bad to have a private pool at our disposal.
Summer sunday.
(Kaitlyn is in a dress made by Granny and originally worn by Aunt Emmy.)
He looks impressive but his aim isn’t that great without his glasses!
Afternoon delight.
Teague discovered the joys of adding a water gun to the water slide today. You notice that the other kids quickly disappeared – except for Ben. He’s not scared of anything.
Brothers.
Alex spent the day with his friend and appears to had a grand time without us.
Teague can always be found nearby if cars/trucks/tractors are involved.
This rice box has been going strong since Alex was the only kid in Milwaukee. One of my best $6 investments.
One of our favorite things about this property is having a raspberry patch and three blueberry bushes. We love being able to walk outside and pick fresh berries. Yum!
Alex and Teague finally created the Burch Bro Bake Sale.

My favorite little guy.
We also spent some time yesterday at the YMCA splash park. The kids had a great time running around. Alex even brought his book and opened it when he needed a change of pace!
Concert on the Common to celebrate the Fourth.
My kids obviously wanted me to take pictures today. They were dancing and posing and having a really good time with each other. One of those might be true in a day, but rarely all three at the same time.
Happy Birthday to Kaitlyn!!
We love having a summer birthday. Everything is so much more relaxed! Kaitlyn woke up this morning with a new stuffed bunny in her bed. She came downstairs super excited. Then we started the day with donuts – Kaitlyn always picks donuts. After our nutrias breakfast, we jumped right into presents.
The birthday girl gets to choose the activity of the day and Kaitlyn wanted to spend the day at Silver Lake. As a special treat, I let the kids order lunch there too. (Normally we pack a lunch.)
Then it was back home for a late nap for Ben and cake making. Kaitlyn wanted to help make her cake. She picked the color of icing and wanted ALL the sprinkles. Hopefully we made her dreams come true.
