We decided to let Kaitlyn stop napping as of this week. Today is day 2.
Month: April 2018
New favorite picture of Ben!
(At least until tomorrow)
Here’s a few snapshots from our day:
That’s Alex. Good book in hand. (Does Pokemon qualify as good?)
Chef Teague is back in the kitchen making everyone’s favorite – Drop Biscuits!
A lot of my project time happens after everyone is in bed at night or when Wade can watch the kids. That meant I cleaned out the art supply cabinet and found window markers this morning. Kaitlyn entertained herself while I cleaned out the rest of the cabinet.
I try to avoid cell phone pictures on this blog, but this had to be documented with the only camera I had nearby. I left Ben on the blanket – correctly clothed. When I returned, he looked like this. Have I mentioned that Ben is always in constant motion? He kicks non-stop. Normally he moves himself off a blanket or around the room. Today he managed to kick off his footed sleeper.
I showed the demo of Kaitlyn’s closet (which is now going to be the boys’ closet) but didn’t update regularly. Everything is done except the trim work (finding matching trim has proven difficult) and a door (current plan is a sliding barn door). The closet is now a little more than double it’s original depth. We had originally planned an external built-in bookcase, but have opted to have shelves inside the closet instead.
Aren’t big brothers the best?
Teague took a few of his Raddish kid recipes with him to visit Granny and Pop. This morning they made cinnamon donuts!
Kaitlyn has been left to entertain herself quite a bit while Wade and I work. We fed her breakfast and got right to projects. She evidently explored my closet and found a Santa hat and an old purse.
Ben has now mastered the double foot grab.
The boys were so excited to tell us about the Rummage Sale at Granny and Pop’s church. They were both given a few dollars and allowed to shop. I can only imagine the goodies they saw and am thankful they only came home with a few small items.

We have planned to repaint Kaitlyn’s room since last July (when we moved in). Today we put primer on the walls. Kaitlyn was so excited to help.
With the list of projects we are hoping to accomplish, it seemed like a good time to introduce Ben to the exersaucer.
When we bought this house, I debated a long time about which kids to put in which rooms. We eventually decided and moved forward. I painted the boys room before Ben was born and we have been waiting to paint Kaitlyn’s room until her closet was enlarged. As she was helping me put primer on the walls, I kept thinking we really needed to change the rooms. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to switch everything. And the more I wanted to do it before I put color on Kaitlyn’s walls. Swapping already meant I would have to repaint the boys’ room.
I talked to Wade about it. I talked to Kaitlyn about it. I debated whether to even ask the boys (and did finally call them). Everyone was good with my idea. Thus began the great bedroom swap of 2018. Kaitlyn and I continue with our primer and I added painting one more bedroom to my list of projects for the week.
I’m not sure which part caused the most excitement – flying, getting to spend a week with grandparents, or free access to iPads for the duration of the flight.
Kaitlyn has no idea how lucky she is to have two girls’ nights so close together. Wade got on a plane today with the big boys to fly them to Memphis. They are spending their spring break in Memphis with Granny and Pop. (Wade is going to fly home late tonight.) I let Kaitlyn plan the evening’s activities and she chose Chuck E Cheese and then a movie at home. We convinced her friend Ronan to join us.
Wade flew the big boys to Memphis for the week. Kaitlyn got to choose the evenings activities. We ended the night with the movie “The Lorax” and popcorn in Momma’s bed.
Today we had a wonderfully warm day and took full advantage after play group.
It’s always been convenient to have the kids swim lessons on the same day, but they aren’t quite at the same time. The boys have decided to write a book during the time they have to wait while Kaitlyn takes her swim lessons.
Morning.
Ben times his morning naps perfectly with my morning shower and Teague’s bus. He truly is the best baby.
Everyone made it home on this awesome day with enough time for a game of laser tag at the park.
This boy likes to take a little piece of every place he’s been home with him – especially fake soccer fields.
Soccer. A sport she loves so much she will willingly take off a dress and wear pants.
Kaitlyn picked his lovey for this outing. Would you have guessed?
(Also, it is impossible for me to keep his fingernails short enough that he doesn’t scratch his face. I trim them constantly.)
I looked over tonight and started laughing at Ben and his antics. I’m still not sure if he was trying to get the pacifier in his mouth or if he was trying to chew on his hand. Either way it was hilarious to watch.
Now it’s time to compare those babies. Below are all three babies at 4 months. Amazingly, I still had the same blanket, the same t-shirt, and almost the same cloth diaper.
If you are interested in how they compare by height and weight:
Height: Alex – 26.75″; Kaitlyn – 26.75″; Ben – 27.5″
Weight: Alex – 17 lbs and 10 oz; Kaitlyn – 15 lbs and 5 oz; Ben – 16 lbs and 13 oz.
This is the lobby for TeaKwonDo. I have the feeling we are going to spend a lot of time here.
Every night as I am trying to get Ben to sleep, someone needs something from right outside his door. Tonight Teague needed a new book.
Overcoming short girl problems.
I think he kind of likes having somebody in the tub with him.
A sweet moment between these two.
For Teague’s birthday, he got a membership to TaeKwonDo. It was a new place that opened it’s doors today. He was the very first (and only) student at the very first class. He even got to break a board. He loved every minute.
These shoes showed up in a bag of hand-me-downs from my sister. Kaitlyn has been asking to wear them for a few days. I finally remembered to plan ahead when laying out her clothes this morning. The minute she put them on, I could tell they hurt her feet. I asked her if she wanted to change. She said no. I asked her if they hurt her feet. She responded with, “No. They are fine. My teachers will like them.” Evidently sacrificing comfort for fashion starts at age 3.
I love watching him grab his feet.
Teague took over my kitchen today to try a few more of his Raddish kids recipes – mini cheese cakes and leek soup. Other than a slight incident with the canister of flour, we had some fun in the kitchen and some yummy meals. These recipes have not disappointed.
Four Burch Siblings.
I was out running errands all day and Wade sent me this picture.
Evidently he put Kaitlyn down for a nap and decided to show the big boys how to clean bathrooms.
Every once in a while the stars align and Mom gets to watch a movie with the big kids.
When I look back on my kids’ childhoods, I will always associate Saturday mornings with their “tv stare.”
There is a special place in heaven for people who have to deal with shin guards and soccer socks. As I was cooking dinner, Kaitlyn and Teague asked to play “soccer” and I said sure. (I had no idea what they really wanted but it sounded fairly harmless.) The next thing I realized, they had out all the shin guards and soccer socks. Teague was sitting in the kitchen floor and patiently putting both shin guards and soccer socks on Kaitlyn and then himself. The boy is a saint.
Alex and I had some time to ourselves today. That never happens!
(Also it decided to snow several inches – in April.)
Teague decided to play soccer after listening to Kaitlyn talk about it. Thankfully we still have gear he fits into.
Napping.
This guy doesn’t dislike his Bumbo but he moves too much for me to let him sit in it. He starts to wiggle the moment I place him and quickly starts sliding out.
Swim lessons got a lot more fun when Kaitlyn’s friend, Ronan, from preschool joined the class. I broke one of my rules and let them watch a video on my phone today. (It was the video for the song – On Top of Spaghetti. If you had heard her ask in that voice of hers you would have said yes too.)
These four are my favorite little people.
