Alex spent all afternoon asking Alexa to show him Ben-10 characters so he could draw them.
Month: March 2018
I walked in to hear Teague teaching Kaitlyn about vanilla and how good it smells.
Ben has been practicing rolling onto his side. I’m guessing he’ll roll all the way over soon.
Today was demo work on Kaitlyn’s closet. Teague stuck with Wade all day and helped tear out the plaster and lathe. The plan is a deeper closet with a sliding barn door. There will also be a builtin bookcase on the opposite wall facing the bedroom door.
The kids were so excited to have a babysitter that they put on their pajamas at 4 pm.
Everyone’s favorite chore.
Everyone’s favorite chore – can’t you tell?
These boots are worn every single day. I’m curious to see what she does when summer comes.
Ben got creative and used his clasped hands to move his car into the right spot for chewing.
Kaitlyn says, “Momma, let’s do our makeup together.”
Today I had breakfast with a monster, Ironman, and a princess.
It’s fun to have friends at swim class.
It’s fun to have friends at swim class.
Big sister was here.
(Ben doesn’t seem impressed.)
I have had four kids. Three of them have used pacifiers. This is the first time it occurred to me to have a central location where a pacifier can always be found (my kitchen). It’s genius. There will be no further babies to use this great idea with so I am sending it out into the ether in the hopes that it helps someone else. (Or maybe everyone else already does this and forgot to tell me?)
Wade was trying to help the boys with an iPad game. He quickly realized they knew more than him.
(He commented that he thought this day would be a lot longer in coming. We are old!)
Morning chores and cleaning.
The last few mornings Ben has been awake when I needed to head to the bus stop so I have taken him with me. By the time we get back to the house he is asleep. I put him on the kitchen table and did a few things in the kitchen waiting for him to wake up. Two hours later he had had a great nap and my kitchen was sparkling.
We had a wonderful month when all my kids were eye patch free. Then Alex had a follow-up visit and he’s back to patching. (For those of you keeping up – Teague had been patching the past 6 months but Alex has not.) Here’s hoping we are done at the next checkup. Nobody likes the patches.
The kids ventured to the Land Trust next door and found a huge rock that makes a perfect slide with a coating of snow.
New baby milestone – clasping hands together.
(And then Ben tries to put both hands in his mouth)
I have now had my first child threaten to run away and actually pack his bag. Alex had a rough afternoon and needed a break. He packed his bag and disappeared. It took me a little while to find him behind the barn in the backyard. I tried to get him to come in twice but he wasn’t quite ready. Instead he came in once for an apple and a second time for a coat. I couldn’t wait till he came in for good to see what he had packed in his bag.
This guy had a rough day and finally decided to run away. I spied him from upstairs sitting in the backyard with his bag.
(After a while he came in to get a coat. After a longer while he finally came inside.)
These two cook all of the time! Teague is the best teacher and so sweet to let Kaitlyn help all the time.
Kaitlyn is sleeping in a new room – the dining room! We are playing musical rooms in our house while Kaitlyn’s closest is enlarged to hold more than a single pair of shoes. (That might be a slight exaggeration but it is not deep enough for a hanger.)
My dinner helper.
Ben is my most active baby. If he is on the floor then his legs are kicking. By this method is he able to move quite a bit from the spot I put him. Today he started out with his head on the monkey’s chin. While I cooked dinner he worked himself completely off the mat.
I’m going to call it a win just because everyone is looking at the camera.
Cub Scout Banquet – a very serious affair.
Making fudge. Yum.
Elsa is making cookies.
This rockstar decided to sleep from 8 pm to 6 am (without any real encouragement from Mom).
Family game night.
He’s close to outgrowing his bassinet.
I was all for the kids going back to school today. The snow was done and most of the town had power. The powers-that-be decided otherwise. I had three bored kiddos all day long. Alex literally followed me around hoping I would suddenly allow all-day iPad play. (He did get some during the youngest’ nap time.)
A snowy day calls for hot chocolate.
Brothers bonding.
We are pretty used to snow and cold weather from our previous cities, but this Nor’easter this an entire new thing. The last one was all rain with heavy winds and left us without power for a few hours. This one was all wet, heavy snow and wind. Most of our town lost power for at least 24 hours – some people longer. We borrowed the generator again from our neighbor and had heat and the necessities running. (We are looking into purchasing one for ourselves!) The kids loved the snow and it was gorgeous to go outside. Ben napped while we played outside and then the kids had hot chocolate and snacks while reading books in a fort. Perfect snow day!
Practicing their laser tag skills.
Silly girl.
Tummy time with a friend.
All of my kids love sushi, but Teague especially can’t get enough. Gram gave him a Japanese Raddish kids box for his birthday and there was a recipe for sushi. He couldn’t wait to make California Rolls and did a great job. (We both thought it was pretty yummy too.)
We have had this duck towel (and a frog one) since Alex. Well loved and perfect for wrapping up babies.
Typical evening chaos – homework, coloring, cooing and kicking.
Why be satisfied with one purse when you can carry three?
I realized today I have absolutely no idea the last time Ben was bathed. Poor fourth child.
Kaitlyn is so easy almost all of the time. She mostly wants to be with Mom and is happy to do whatever I need to do. The other day she was content to read books in the hall while I took some pictures with Ben (see here). Then she asked me to read her a book and I was so glad the camera was still in place.
These guys have been begging to go the library for days and we finally made time today. They were super excited.
We do all the things wrong with baby sleeping but he sleeps!
