I specifically told them they could play anywhere but Kaitlyn’s room, but they look so darn cute…
Month: April 2016
When the 1 year old is leading the charge, I decided to get out of the way!
Alex, Leah, and Teague showed up in my kitchen during Kaitlyn’s nap and asked for cleaning supplies. I was a little suspicious and asked what they wanted to clean. They informed me my house was dirty and they wanted to clean it. I decided to humor them with sponges and buckets. I came outside to find them cleaning the side of the garage and they continued for the rest of the day (at least a couple of hours)!
Rescuebots to the rescue!
They decided the Spy Club needed a gate.
Let’s be clear that is not her toothbrush…
(But then it’s not mine either.)
I left Kaitlyn in her room for a few minutes while I put laundry away. This is what I found when I returned – another big mess, but at least the laundry is done.
These two are always, always wrestling.
Teague and his buddies. Plotting.
This is a typical Kaitlyn pout. It’s normal accompanied by a loud screech, but not always.
This girl loves shoes. She is always in my closet or demanding her own shoes be changed for another pair. Today I want to thank Zappos not only for quick shipping but for an afternoon worth’s of entertainment. Alex needed new soccer cleats and we ordered quite a few pairs. Kaitlyn was more than happy to open all the boxes and try them all on before Alex got around to it.
Bedtime.
Bedtime.
Teague is always so excited when I show up as Mystery Reader. Thankfully his teachers are awesome and entertain Kaitlyn while I do the reading. Today she took every single toy off the shelves in the time it took me to read these two books.
Poor Alex. He has a younger sister that loves books but doesn’t quite understand how to be gentle with Daddy’s old paperbacks.
These two are the best of friends.
I asked these two to help me unload the dishwasher. Imagine my surprise when Kaitlyn promptly began putting things in their correct place and ended up putting up significantly more than Teague.
Alex is desperate to have somebody in the house interested in Minecraft with him. He’s obviously now set his hopes on Kaitlyn. (These books have become his constant companions.)
Me and my crazies.
The boys are becoming pros at helping with the cheese dip making. Awesome!
Wade decided to cut down a tree in our front yard and these little lumberjacks claimed the wood for their spy club.
We spent most of the day outside working in the yard – weather be darned.
Our Saturday was mostly spent in the front yard when Wade decided he could cut down a dead tree on his own. The kids were fascinated with the process and couldn’t wait it claim some of the wood for their spy club. They even built a table and chairs which necessitated a picnic lunch.
I was looking for a missing sock under the boys bed and found Moose instead. Poor lovey. It used to be that Alex took him everywhere. Now he’s forgotten in a corner under the bed. The years have flown by…
My baker wanted to make bran muffins again. We were low on sour cream so he even begged a trip to the grocery and of course we went!
I walked into MOPPETS to pick up Kailtyn. She looked at me and very clearly said “backpack”. When your child only says about 5 words you get excited about new ones – especially multi syllable ones! She then repeated it three times as she walked over to it and we got it off the hook to go home.
I was going through Alex’s backpack and came across one of his stories. I always love to read what he writes, but I quickly realized he needed to read this one out loud to his brother.

Teague is upstairs. The Easter bunny is downstairs. Teague is trying to catch him with a claw. Teague misses and catches himself.
Teague grabs the remote control. He presses the OFF button. It comes off.
He says sorry to the Easter bunny. The Easter bunny says it’s okay.
Teague goes to bed. He stays awake for a long time. He just can’t fall asleep thinking about his night.
He can’t wait to read our books.
Teague and Leah play house all the time. It often involves costumes. Today she was packing his lunch. Did I mention they call each other “honey” the entire time?
This is very typical Kaitlyn. She finds a book. She pulls a chair up somewhere and settles in to read.
Those darn words. It appears my kids are destined to be late talkers. (See here.) Alex said his first word at 16 months – ball. To keep things interesting, he went ahead and started with sentences and actually said, “I want ball.” I wasn’t too surprised when Kaitlyn wasn’t talking early, but she was always much more vocal than Alex so I didn’t worry. She said her first word “apple” at 16 months. I couldn’t wait for the words to start appearing like crazy after that. Instead that word seemed to disappear. A few weeks later she started saying “opes” for open. That word has consistently stayed and now at 21 months we have a total of 5 words – open, bye, hi, apple (which eventually reappeared), and hot. She will happily attempt to repeat a word when asked, but she uses very few words spontaneously. We have a speech evaluation scheduled for the end of next week so I’ll be curious what they have to say.
In other news, she loves her booster seat in the window. It’s perfect for a quick snack or reading a book.
Tonight was Alex’s last art class and by far my favorite project – maybe because of the subject. I can’t wait to get a frame for this one!
We talked about being brave and strong. We said the last shot was the tetanus shot and was the “bad” one. (I still cringe to think of mine.) Teague did really well until they asked him to take his arm out of his shirt. Then he went ahead and started screaming and didn’t stop till after he got home and took a nap. The good news is we are done with shots for this year….
Mini tantrum at the doctor’s office – awesome.
(We had an appointment with a nurse for Teague to get two shots and ended up waiting for over 45 minutes in the waiting room. I kind of wanted to throw a tantrum too.)
This kid loves his Dad and is already working on a Father’s Day card.
I went in the other night to check Teague’s sock situation and discovered that he had his left thumb in his mouth. (He had previously been a right thumb sucker.) I am pretty sure it must have happened well into the night. I know Teague has been working hard on this and would only have done it subconsciously. Last night we put yucky stuff on both thumbs and went with two socks.
Poor Madison is now the subject of Kaitlyn’s makeover’s.
Suddenly inside the drawers is the cool place to play. Obviously. All of the cool kids are doing it…
It’s no secret that I love chocolate. However, I’m not sure I have adequately disclosed how much I love Moose Munch – by Harry and David. They take caramel covered popcorn and cover it in chocolate. Of course my favorite is the dark chocolate and the particular option where all of the popcorn is covered in chocolate (which can be a little harder to find). Wade and I happened to stumble on this particular treat in TJ Maxx (where I have never seen Moose Munch) while in Nashville for the SEC tournament. I was going to treat myself to one container and Wade went ahead and bought all they had. He’s a great husband!
I will not admit to how long (or short) an amount of time these containers lasted.
They have no idea why they should be so excited that it is bedtime, but I know why!!
(Mom loves bedtime or rather the time after bedtime.)
We now have a Spy Club in our neighborhood. Today was warm and sunny so the kids played outside all afternoon. Leah quickly joined the boys and I went outside to find that they had returned to their spot in the woods and created a new sign (with all their names), cleared three paths, and were loving every minute. (Note that they didn’t change out of their church shirts, but oh well….)
Kaitlyn is so close to learning to jump. The boys were trying to teach her the last step.
These kids really wanted a snack and I really wanted to finish my book. (I only had 20 pages left.)
They got tired of waiting. Alex popped the popcorn and brought everything into the living room – including the cutting board, apple, and knife so that I could finish up the snacks without leaving my chair or my book.
Their favorite time of the day – video games.
Stretch.
