Today the kids talked Wade into donuts for breakfast. We decided to try out the spiral donut place we saw in downtown Barrington – Spring Donuts. The kids loved watching the donuts being made and talking to the other customers in the quaint little shop.
Month: April 2016
We decided to try out the spiral donut shop in downtown Barrington. The boys picked the topping and can’t wait to dig in!
We decided to try out the spiral donut shop in downtown Barrington. It even had a play kitchen to entertain Kaitlyn.
Wade and I have been begging the boys for months to go down to the playroom when they wake up instead of trying to play quietly in their room. (It seems impossible.) Today Alex decided to take some books and read downstairs. It was awesome! Kaitlyn slept a little later so I slept a little later!
They call this game, “The Kaitlyn Express.” He asks her if she wants a ride on the Kaitlyn Express. She runs and lays down on the blanket. Then he pulls her around the house until she falls off. Then they start the entire game over again.
Teague’s friends are fascinated with his talk of a “spy club.” Today they discovered a tiny patch of woods in the corner lot of their preschool and immediately named it the PreK Spy Club.
Breakfast.
After school adventures.
Looking for horses.
I have mentioned before that Kaitlyn loves to help unload the dishwasher. She is great about knowing which in which drawer or cabinet things belong. The biggest issue is she can’t actually see into the drawers so in her world the drawers have no organization. This is how I know Kaitlyn put up the silverware…
Bedtime routines.
That silly daddy.
One of these two was more into the snuggle than the other.
Napping – until I wake her up for Teague’s swim lessons.
I’ve found my Mac computers to be pretty trouble free. This was a first for me today and I found it amusing enough to take a picture.
It was easily fixed by restarting and hopefully doesn’t appear again.
First watermelon of the season!

First watermelon of the season!
We had a fabulous day today and everybody wanted to stay outside after school and enjoy the sun.
By evening we had a freak storm with hail. Crazy days.
Alex’s favorite thing to read is still Wade’s old comic books. Lately he’s been sneaking them into bed at night and reading them until it gets too dark outside (bedtime is 7:30) and then reading them in the morning until I come to get them at 7.
The box forts continue – but now the boys brought in their expert consultant from next door.
Kaitlyn is an underwear thief. Consider yourself warned.
I got new patio furniture and the kids got boxes. Win win.
I was gone all afternoon and came home to find Kaitlyn outside helping Wade build patio furniture. He had also put her hair in a ponytail. I love that he attempted it and laughed inside all afternoon at the jaunty angle.
(He did comment it was much harder to do than he thought it would be.)
More comic books.
Teague has come an amazing way in his reading this year. I am so proud of him and can’t wait till we finish his program.
I occasionally leave Teague in charge of the monitor if Kaitlyn’s nap is still going when I need to walk down to the street to get Alex off the bus. Yesterday I was shocked to come inside and find both kids playing in the playroom. (I had no idea he could get her out of her crib.) Today he showed me how he did it.
Kaitlyn loves to mimic everything I do. That includes “cooking.” Currently my spices are her favorite plaything and today she realized she could stack the jars.
Alex loves to read Wade’s old comics. I can’t wait till he actually understands the humor behind them.
We have awesome pets.
(You would agree if you saw the next 8 pictures in this series.)
Overalls.
Teague and Leah enjoying their afternoon before the big kids get home from school.
Happy Birthday to me!
He’s practicing his writing on the iPad. It turns out that is WAY more fun than using paper and pencil.
She has been playing with these dinosaurs all day. I can also officially say her first animal sound is a dinosaur “ROAR.” Cutest sound ever!
Today I celebrated turning 37. There were lots of presents, handmade paintings by my kids, sushi, and a fabulous chocolate cake. Perfect!
Three monkeys in a bed.
Sleeping beauty – about to be awoken..
We all have our little routines. One of Kaitlyn’s is going through Alex’s lunchbox everyday when he gets home. I’m always curious what’s she’s looking to find. He never brings home a scrap of food, but he does always have slightly different containers which she loves to open.
Alex is always building/creating.
I can’t believe he hasn’t worn out the tires on this tractor. Daily. Hourly. Round and round.
Then he pushes Kaitlyn when she wants a turn.
We had peanut butter toast for breakfast. Would you have ever guessed?
This afternoon I opened the fridge and found someone had put their empty milk cup in the fridge instead of the dishwasher. Part of me would like to think it was pure accident and another part thinks it is easier to open the fridge and put it on the shelf than open the dishwasher, pull out the rack, and put the cup in the right place…
Two things.
1.) It is much too cold for bathing suits and water guns, but they had a blast.
2.) This is the day I realized I could no longer buy water guns and outside toys in twos. We definitely need at least three (and four before long) of these things.
I can’t tell if she is more fascinated with the colors or the beeps.
Wade decided to cut down a second tree yesterday. (This one in our backyard.) Today he worked to get to get it chopped up and used some of the wood to create a fire pit. The kids started off helping Wade and quickly decided water guns sounded a lot more fun. (We have got to get some more water guns. There is always an odd man out!)
We ended the day with hot dogs and s’mores. Spring is here!
Soccer Saturday.
The talented Mr. Teague.
She may be a country girl yet.
If only she could help me cook a real meal. Soon. Very soon.
