It’s hot here – really hot. By the time I get my hands emptied, everyone else is buckled in the hot car and smothering. With the keyless entry we have discovered that Alex can start the car and begin the “cooling off” process for us.
Month: July 2015
One of our favorite activities – the local pool.
Family Fun Night – water games.

“Helping” unload groceries.
Brothers.
I turned my back for a second…
Library days are everyone’s favorite.
That darn sneaky nap strikes again – He told us he was going upstairs to read books.
We kind of love the splash of pink she brings to our lives.
In case you were wondering, this is what well done chicken looks like.
I had signed up long ago to take dinner to a friend tonight to welcome home their new baby. I knew she liked my cheese dip so I planned chicken tacos for the main course. My chicken tacos are significantly better if Wade grills the chicken and he was conveniently not flying out until early evening. He put the chicken on this morning to grill. Unfortunately, we both got to doing other things and forgot about it – until three hours later. I was a little surprised the chicken didn’t look even worse after cooking for three hours! It was still inedible, but thankfully I had more chicken and Wade had enough time to grill a second time.
I had always planned to post pictures of our house in Platte City after I finished getting everything “just right.” I had also assumed we would be here longer than a year. Neither of these things happened so instead I am posting the pictures taken by the listing agent’s photographer. (My big lens is at Canon for repair and should be coming back any day. I am hoping to take my own pictures with the lens when I get it and I’ll post pictures of any rooms not shown below.)
Today’s project – building a catapult.
It may not have been the world’s prettiest pie crust but it was made by the proudest little boy (all by himself).
(And when I say “made”, I really mean arranged in a pie plate.)
She was a little difficult to wake up for church this morning.
Movie night! (Big Hero Six)
Ah, the joys of experiment kits…
Wade was supposed to put Kaitlyn to bed while I got dinner on the table. The boys and I sat at the table and waited and waited. Eventually I went to see if Wade needed help. Kaitlyn had fallen asleep on his shoulder and he was enjoying the moment too much to put her down.
One of my birthday presents was the gift of family pictures. We had to reschedule three times due to rain – once after we were on the way to meet the photographer. The day of the photo shoot both boys were grumpy, it was hot, and there was not a cloud in the sky (not a good thing for pictures). Thankfully I got some pictures I love!
Daddy’s home!
World’s best big brother. Of course he’ll quit playing rescuebots and let Kaitlyn take over.
Neither boy cared to explain how Kaitlyn ended up with a cut on her lip….
Alex is a typical big brother. He’s taunting Kaitlyn – even while in the shower.
Teague loves anything with wheels. It is killing him to not ride Kaitlyn’s new toy. Instead he “plays” with it and tries to get her to ride it constantly.
Those shots yesterday were no fun, but at least her bandaids all match.
Teague is just a silly boy. He insisted on wearing these glasses all morning while playing Rescuebots.
At 12 months of age, Kaitlyn has finally decided to each straight from a fruit pouch! She has always been good about baby food (and finger food too), but she has never take more than a tiny sip from a pouch. She’ll gobble the entire contents, but only if you feed her with a spoon. I keep trying to teach her, and Teague shows her how it’s done, but she determinedly refuses. I, also refuse, to make life easier on myself and buy the handy spoon attachment for the pouches. Today she grabbed the fruit pouch out of my hands and ate not one, but two pouches in a sitting. Here’s hoping this is the beginning of a new trend!
“Look Mom. Kaitlyn fits in the baby doll stroller.”
Family fun night – buried treasure.
12 month checkup
Weight – 19 lbs. 14oz.
(All other information will have to wait till I have the box with the piece of paper from the doctor visit.)
Duplos are still a hit – even with my oldest.
The boys are perfecting the art of “blocking” to keep Kaitlyn out.
Kaitlyn loves my old doll cradle. Thankfully it can be flipped over and made into a doll bed.
(This girl is determined not to sit down in even a slightly dangerous place – high chair, shopping cart, rocking cradle, etc.)
It turns out I kind of love pajamas and my kids are too young to care.

Teague was so excited about B’s new car, sweetly pointed out that his booster would fit in the back, and asked if he could please have a ride.
B immediately said yes and off they went.
Everybody’s matching swimsuit finally arrived -after we got back from the beach!
Happy 4th of July!!
She took a little encouraging, but eventually she dug into her cake.
Having a summer baby has a lot of benefits (biggest being it is nowhere near Christmas or anyone else’s birthday). One of them is we don’t have to be at home. We already knew we wanted a beach trip this summer and decided to coordinate it with Kaitlyn’s birthday. If we had her party in Kentucky then all of her grandparents (and aunts) could attend. Having a first birthday party with all the family in attendance is a first for us and it made for an awesome party! We started the day with donuts from Red’s, last minute decorating, and then setting up for all the photos we planned to take later in the day.
Kaitlyn slept through our big lunch and then we got to the important part of the day – the cake!
That grin says it all.
Fruit pouch buddies.
This one wouldn’t stand still for a single minute today.
