Buddy – corrupting my little girl already.
Month: March 2015
Today we arrived at Woodford Reserve bright and early.
This facility was much “prettier” and more polished in appearance than the last. Wade could explain all the reasons. I still enjoyed the old buildings and traditions of bourbon-making, but disliked wearing the headsets (the group was less than 10 people!).
Then we were on to Four Roses Distillery. Wade and I were both excited for this tour – mostly because this is one of Wade’s favorite bourbons. The tour guide was very new (we were his second tour) but even allowing for that it was a pretty sad tour compared to the other places we had visited. Did I mention there was no chocolate at the end?
A day on Pop’s farm.
Gram’s playroom is the best.
Wade and I are taking a few days to explore the Bourbon Trail while our kids are visiting their grandparents. Bourbon is definitely Wade’s thing and not mine (in terms of drinking it), but I find the subject fascinating. Most of the “new” bourbons were released in the fall and he had a lot of fun trying to track them down. In the end it’s a small part luck and a large part of who you know. The prices are fixed so most stores will put the special ones in the back for special people. Some of his stories of being in the right place at the right time or calling every store in a 50 mile radius while on a business trip are hilarious.
We drove to Frankfurt, KY this morning and straight to the Buffalo Trace Distillery.
They are responsible for Blanton’s, E.H. Taylor, W.L. Weller, Van Winkle, Eagle Rare, and many others. Most of the employees have worked there for years and so did their parents. Our tour guide was third generation and had some great stories. His one hour tour lasted three and was fantastic. I highly recommend Freddie as a tour guide if you ever take the Hard Hat Tour.
Evidently Tennessee has a drive through Zoo (Tennessee Safari Park). The boys got buckets of food and were ready to feed the animals from the car!
Kaitlyn is just branching out to finger food and Granny’s bread was a huge hit.
Granny got a great action shot of Alex.
Enjoying Granny and Pop’s church playground.
It’s definitely a visit to Gram’s house. Look at Kaitlyn enjoying a snack in front of the TV.
A bike ride in the rain with Aunt Emmy.
Evidently Teague was an unexpected champ at Jenga.
Wade and I almost always attend the SEC basketball tournament with my Dad and we were really excited to see the Cats play this year! Either my Mom or Judy and Jerry have been great about watching our kids to let us do this. Having three kids (one of them a baby) made this year a little more tricky. We finally decided to send the boys to Granny and Pop’s house and Kaitlyn to Gram’s. The tournament just happened to be the few days before Alex’s spring break. We took full advantage and planned a small vacation on the Bourbon trail after the tournament while the kids were already with grandparents.
This is the only tournament I can recall where I didn’t take my “big” camera to a single game. I ended up with two pictures from Wade and I’s time in Nashville – both at the arena.
Daddy will be so proud that Kaitlyn wanted to play with tools.
The boys took time out from cookie making to watch some basketball.
Gram wasted no time at all in introducing Kaitlyn to Diet Coke (or at least the bottle).
Gram and her munchkins.
What can you expect at Gram’s house but ice cream cake for breakfast – especially when she didn’t get to come to Platte City for the boys’ birthdays due to multiple snowstorms in Paducah? The boys were more than happy to have the unusual breakfast, a few surprises, and a fun piñata. Kaitlyn thought all these shenanigans were hilarious!
Here’s another Alex-Kaitlyn comparison (but it is a little off in ages). They are in the same outfit but the outfit took me a few months to find! It got put in the wrong clothing bin and I had to sort through all the baby boy clothes to find it. In the picture on the left Alex is 4 months old and in the picture on the right Kaitlyn is 8 months old. (You can tell the outfit was a little big on Alex and it’s a little small on Kaitlyn!)
Alex is quite content to watch movies the entire drive to Kentucky. Thankfully he also does fine with the headphones and we don’t have to listen to the movies.
Teague was trying to speed up our loading of the car. He was definitely anxious to see Gram today and Granny and Pop tomorrow.
This girl always chooses a sock to chew on if she can find one. (She does not seem to take cleanliness into account.)
Today we hit 70 degrees! Amazing! My friend, Chelsie, and I dragged our kids to the park for a picnic. Of course the babies fell asleep in the car so we left the doors open and let them nap. The big kids ate their lunches and then had cookies and played and played. I could have happily stayed all afternoon.
Alex has been planning his packing for days. Today he finally started to fill his suitcase for Granny and Pop’s.
It was a picnic at the park day.
Today I learned Kaitlyn does not like the swings.
Teague hasn’t seen his market yet. It still needs a bit of clear coat, but I couldn’t help sharing. Wade did a fantastic job. I showed him this market I had seen on a blog.
He created his own version and even added a place for the shopping cart! I can’t wait to see Teague’s reaction.
We kind of love books in this house.
I think she’s almost ready for a ride.
Sonic in the wild.
We discovered that Teague can give himself his medicine and suddenly it is much easier (and fun) for everyone involved.
Kaitlyn seems to think her baby’s hand is extra yummy.
When we left our old house I left a wonderful spice cabinet (an old converted built-in ironing board cabinet). My current solution had been to shove all my spices in a drawer and then hunt and hunt when I needed a specific spice. For Christmas Wade had given me labels for the tops of my jars (see here), which went a long way to making spice hunting much easier. Then he told me the bigger part of my gift was a custom built drawer insert to hold the jars in place. After two attempts (the first didn’t hold enough jars – that’s what happens when you assume), and a lot of drilling holes, I have an awesome spice drawer!!!
The boys were really excited to open their last birthday gifts.
I saw them and thought – there goes my Saturday.
This is actually old news, but Kaitlyn is crawling. She started forward motion on 2/28 (7 months).
Sonic costume for the win!
(My Mom ended up not being able to visit for the boys’ birthdays – due to some crazy weather in Paducah – and has spread out her gifts over the past few weeks.)
Teague has been making pretend sandwiches and trying to convince “Sonic” he is hungry.
That I-just-woke-up-from-a-nap-look.
It was about 10 o’clock at night. I let Madison out one last night and she went a little further than the back door. I wanted to get in bed and read so I asked Wade to watch and let her back inside. About 10 minutes later he came back to our room to talk to me. We suddenly heard Madison barking. Wade went to let her in and came back to finish our conversation. A few seconds later Madison followed him. We both immediately smelled her. She had obviously been sprayed by a skunk. We quickly shooed her back outside and googled the topic. Wade went out to buy the necessary items. I lit candles and desperately wished I could open windows. She didn’t actually lay down anywhere but the smell was overpowering.
Wade came home with the hydrogen peroxide, mixed up his concotion, and took her to the guest room (separate from the house) to give her the bath. We moved the cars out of the garage and banished her to the garage for the night. What a stink!!
Find it!
Teague loves his new game (Take the Cake) and finally convinced Alex to play.
T. R. O. U. B. L. E.
Pajama night at Family Fun Night.
This is the the third time-out that has turned into a nap this week (and it is only Wednesday). I think we may return to naps and see if our afternoons go a little smoother.
I have never been big on childproofing my house. I simply waited to see what was an issue and then addressed it as needed. I have the feeling Kaitlyn is going to make me rethink that plan. Already she seems to be “into” lots more things than Alex.
Alex was really proud of his parking deck and airport. Next up was a road system with Teague’s new road tape.
Can you find Teague? (Hint – look for a partial foot in the bottom left of the picture.)
He has taken to hiding when he is grumpy or in trouble.
Kaitlyn’s new favorite toy is the vacuum cleaner – until you turn it on.
