The YMCA had their grand opening today for the new expansion area. Alex and Teague were very interested in the lazy river but not quite brave enough to try it without an adult in the water.
Month: July 2014
Waiting patiently to see the doctor. (2 week check up)
I can’t quite remember what led up to it, but Alex and Wade decided to base a decision on the outcome of arm wrestling. Arm wrestling was Wade’s idea and Alex clearly had no idea what it was, but he couldn’t wait to try. First the boys went downstairs to use my hand weights and “extracise.” Then came the match:
This was one of those days that everybody ended up napping at the same time. Teague was upstairs in his bed. I was feeding Kaitlyn and we both snuggled in on the couch when she finished. Alex was playing Legos when I went to sleep, but when I woke up he was asleep beside me on the couch. Over the next 30 minutes, I got a kick out of his movements while still asleep.
Alex upgraded to a new, bigger rocket tonight. It could even carry a payload (he chose starburst).
Fun in the pool after swim class.
Snuggles with Daddy.
Before moving to Kansas City, I did quite a bit of research and found a photographer that combined a newborn photo session and a family lifestyle session. I was almost as excited about the pictures as Kaitlyn’s arrival. A few days ago, Allison Corrin came to our house for the photos. I got them today and love how they turned out!
Alex’s idea completed – a garbage truck.
Mail run.
This one loves her swaddle (and Dad is by far the champion swaddler).
Anyone who knows me knows that I always have my camera close at hand. I’m feeling a little lost today. My camera died yesterday (meaning for the first time my awesome husband couldn’t fix it). I went to take a picture and there was no power at all. A new battery didn’t fix it and Wade is worried it might be an internal board. I have already packed up my camera and its on its way to a repair center. I’m going to try to make do with my camera phone, but there’s always the possibility I’ll rent a new body for a few days.
Alex has moved from paper projects to cardboard projects. He has become increasingly frustrated with his kid scissors and their performance cutting the cardboard. I think it might be time for some a little more age (and material) appropriate.
“Doing electrical”
Sweet dreams.
What today’s quiet time looked like.
On one of our first trips to the local grocery (Price Chopper) we learned that there is a special sign hidden somewhere in the store. If the kids find the sign, they can go to customer service and give the location. Then they are rewarded with a treat. (Genius idea to keep kids entertained while shopping!) We have look and looked and looked, but never found the sign. Today Alex was asking the ladies at the checkout and one of them gave Alex a huge clue (as in exactly which aisle). You have never seen a little boy so excited. Imagine my surprise when the treat was an entire bag of sour gummy worms (for each boy)!
Today’s building project included a bank and jail.
Newborn pictures happening now!
This time Mr. Creative decided to make a video game (baseball).
(I am in a love-hate relationship with the level of creativity/craftiness Alex is showing. I love to hear his ideas and see the finished product. I hate the mess of papers/scissors/stickers/crayons that is always all over my floors and tables.)
“I’ll entertain the baby!”
He just might be the world’s proudest big brother.
Wade came home from work with a ticket to the Kansas Speedway. Evidently they open up the track and let anyone race any car (for 2 laps at 65 mph). We thought it’d be fun to take the minivan (and the kids). Thankfully there wasn’t much of a line and we only had to watch two other groups of cars before it was our turn. Alex was super excited. He demanded to wear his race car shirt and bounced and screamed the entire time. Teague continued to calmly eat his apples and look out the window. Kaitlyn slept through the entire adventure.
Pure joy (at the racetrack).
Surprisingly, Teague didn’t get too excited about our racetrack adventure.
I wanted a picture of Kaitlyn’s tiny little feet. She wasn’t interested in having her picture taken.
Our guest room has been occupied for two weeks straight. My Mom came at the end of June in case Kaitlyn decided to arrive in the middle of the night. She stayed until we got home from the hospital. The day she left, Granny and Pop arrived. They stayed until B and Mary came. We have loved all the help and the boys’ have loved the extra attention. We’ve had people cooking, cleaning, doing yard work, etc for us. B and Mary were no different. They brought Alex and Teague a box of school supplies and then spent the day playing “School” with Alex as the teacher. Mary brought her Shark (a product which I have heard about but never used) and cleaned my floors. She also brought her hair cutting supplies and cut the boys’ hair!
Today’s quiet time turned into Lego build time with B.
Haircut in the kitchen!
Ten tiny fingers.
B’s here. Let the games begin.
Lazy summer day.
Alex had been begging to take Granny and Pop to the train restaurant (Fritz’s), but with our sports schedule it just wasn’t going to work. Then we were notified that baseball had been cancelled due to wet fields. We managed to get everyone in one car and drove downtown to meet Wade for dinner. Thankfully Kaitlyn slept through her first outing and the boys were in heaven with the trains.
Alex loves his new job helping Granny in the yard.
Just swinging.
Alex as a baby would only sleep in his car seat if he was in a moving car. Thankfully Kaitlyn seems to be a more typical baby and can be moved from the car without waking.
I love this creative little boy.
Granny did the weed pulling and Teague did the weed hauling.
Today we had an awake and happy little girl!
Alex and Pop spent quite a bit of time in the shop today building.
Both of my boys have been fascinated by this coffee table book on old toys. (A random find in a box during the move.)
It has worked out perfectly that I don’t yet have a piece of furniture for this corner of our bedroom.
Boat builder testing out his boat.
“I make really big mountain.”
(His legs are under the rug making a bump.)
The basement scene as I headed to bed.
