Month: March 2014
My crafty boy couldn’t wait to get to his “desk” and get to work.
Someone was excited to get to Granny and Pop’s and try out the new bike.
Today was our last day in Kansas City. Wade had to go to work for a while, but he did entertain the kids while I got a few things done – and by that I mean finished my book. (Wade is actually under that pile of pillows.)
After nap we decided to try a local park that had some awesome climbing trees. The weather here has been such a nice change from our brutal temperatures in Milwaukee.
Alex was so excited for the warm weather and the backyard to explore. He even found “treasures.”
Almost anything out of Teague’s mouth these days has the ending “just like Alex.” So when Alex gathered treasures in the yard then Teague needed a collection too.
Now that I know his napping days are numbered, I can’t help put take pictures when he sleeps.
Enjoying books at Daddy’s place.
Alex’s happy place – LegoLand.
Teague loved the car-building area at LegoLand. He found these two blue car pieces and wanted a car created. I did the best I could (finding necessary pieces was hard!) and then he wouldn’t put that car down. He loved it!
Wade had a mission for today – to make Kansas City seem awesome to the boys. We started the morning at Hallmark’s Kaleidoscope. It’s a free event with 40 minute art sessions for kids. There are tons of supplies (mostly extras from card printing or crayola) and different stations. The kids can basically do anything they want in the set time frame and even enter again for the next session if there is room. Our boys loved the painting and there was even a dryer to make sure artwork was dry and ready to take home. My favorite activity was the puzzle maker. The kids draw on some squares of cardboard and then put the material through a machine that cuts it into a puzzle. Genius.
After lunch and a quick nap we headed to LegoLand. We had mentioned this to Alex previously and he has been on pins and needles waiting to go. It was packed with people but the boys got a turn doing everything they wanted. Entrance starts with a short tour and discussion of how legos are made. Then you an get your height and weight converted to “bricks.” Next up is a ride and then you are sent into the big open area with different centers and the theater (they have a 15 minute 3D movie). The boys’ favorite activity was building race cars and racing them on the ramps/drag strip.
Knowing that Alex most likely won’t finish the school year in Tosa, I have gotten very lax about pulling him from class. When our travel arrangements were getting very complicated for the next week I just decided we would make a 10 day trip of it and he could miss the days at school. We left after class today and headed for Kansas City. The boys were great (as usual) and we arrived in time for books with Daddy before bed.
I was so impressed with the boys. I had them sit in the car while I took Madison into the boarding facility. It took longer than I expected but the boys had each found something to entertain them while I was gone.

The boys really wanted to play a game, but I had to work on dinner. In the end they decided to play by themselves. It was quite hilarious to listen to them as they tried.
Teague is almost always asleep when I go to pick him up at MDO. This is one of the first times I have ever seen him actually on his mat.
Alex gave up naps three weeks ago (see here). I immediately noticed that he was going to sleep at night much quicker. (He’s always been good about staying in bed and being fairly quiet but I knew he was awake quite a while some nights.) This week he has been begging me for naps. It’s much easier for me so I have been letting him take them, but I am noticing the same trend at bedtime. I’m not sure what I’ll decide to do, but for now he is sleeping sweetly in my bed.
Napping.
Seriously impressive bedhead.
We were excited to put our house on the market. I even knew that meant having to be gone for hours at a time with two kids and a dog. Somehow I didn’t realize I was agreeing to being gone for four hours at a time! We got haircuts, dinner, and even took a trip to the dog park tonight. I’m praying our house sells soon!
If you look closely you will realize the fatal flaw in my plans was not thinking through the shoes. Teague had his snow boots with him at school. I keep a pair for myself in the back of my car for emergencies. Alex had no boots. By the end of the dog park we still had two hours to kill so we stopped by Target to buy some new shoes (Converse) and new socks for Alex.
My backseat.
(With our house on the market, I have to have two boys and a dog gone for hours at at time!)
Pajama Day at school.
Today is the big day. Our house is finally on the market. Wade’s new job came with a great relocation package, but it also requires we follow their steps and guidelines. They actually thought our house should be priced higher than we had hoped so I can’t wait to see how that turns out. (My fingers are secretly crossed for a bidding war. Everyone tells us houses in Tosa are going really quickly right now.)
Dance parties seem to happen a lot at our house lately (and are much more music/noise than dance).
We got some fresh snow and the boys really wanted to try out their new snowboard. The only downside was the temperature – a high of 10 degrees. We bundled up and headed to our favorite sledding hill. Everyone tried out the snowboard and we quickly realized the recent snow was of a consistency to make the snowboard unbelievably fast. None of us (parents included) could actually stay on our feet. The boys had a great time sledding regardless.
Alex’s preferred method of using the snowboard.
Testing out the new snowboard (in 10 degree temperatures).
The boys first request this morning was for an airport. Wade was happy to oblige.
