What little boy doesn’t love having a neighbor with sport wheelchairs?
Month: September 2013
This bike was definitely not built for two.
Just sitting so nice and cute by the fountain at school.
Today was one of those perfect days to live on our street with our neighbors. I love that time right after nap when we all play outside and wait for the dads to come home.
(The theme today was car repair.)
On the way home from school Alex informed me he was going to work on my car after nap. He told me it had a squeak that he could fix.
Sharing snack with a friend.
Our wedding album has always fascinated Alex.
Today’s craft at school was to make a lion. Teague’s attempting to “roar” in the picture.
After our trip to Boston last April, Wade and I knew we wanted Teague’s surgery done by Dr. Hunter, the ophthalmologist-in-chief. It was suggested that we wait for the results of the genetic testing done by the research department before scheduling surgery. Around June (I think) we finally got word that the results were in and called to set up surgery. Dr. Hunter had one surgery appointment left this year and it was November 21. We immediately booked it and then set to work booking an MRI locally. Dr. Hunter had let us know this would be needed and would assist him in prepping for surgery.
Today was Teague’s MRI. He did fine and I’m hoping the images provide the necessary information. He woke up from the anesthesia much better than he did after his last surgery. He managed to drink three containers of juice and have two packages of animal crackers before we left!
Pajama snuggles.
I have never used the buckles on shopping carts with either of my children, but lately Teague has taken to buckling himself in while we are shopping.
My house is a zoo.
A book detailing each car from the movies. Teague is in heaven.
Testing out the boat he built with Dad.
Setting the table for dinner.
Alex’s new obsession is boats. He has smoothly transitioned from only wanting to fish to wanting to build a boat. (Don’t worry. He still wants to go fishing all the time too). Wade finally told him he would have to be as big as Wade to build a real boat. Until then he can ask Mr. Jeff to take him fishing in his boat and toy-sized boats can be built at home.
I love having a husband who can make wishes and dreams come true. Their first boat to build was a rubber-band powered paddle boat. (Then of course a bath was needed to really test it out.)
I have to admit it never occurred to me to make potato chips at home. I stumbled across this recipe fro Cooking Light (I don’t recommend the chicken nuggets also found through the link) and thought it looked easy enough I’d try it. Turns out the chips are yummy and my family keeps asking for more.
Potato chips:
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 medium purple sweet potato (about 8 ounces), cut crosswise into 1/8-inch-thick slices
1 medium baking potato (about 8 ounces), cut crosswise into 1/8-inch-thick slices
To prepare chips, combine oil and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a large bowl. Add potatoes; toss gently to coat. Place microwave plate over parchment paper. Cut paper to fit plate. Cover plate with parchment paper; arrange purple potato slices in a single layer over paper. Microwave at HIGH for 4 minutes or until potatoes are crisp and begin to brown. Repeat procedure with baking potatoes, reusing parchment paper.
So thankful for tolerant pets.
Grape thief.
He got the stool from the bathroom and I found him helping himself.

Just lounging.
Teague spent the entire bath using this scoop to dump water on Alex’s head. They both loved it.
I felt a little like Tom Sawyer when it came to washing my car today.
Today was the start of our new routine. Alex has school five days a week in the mornings only. Teague has school two days a week for five hours. I think I am going to spend most of my time in the car.
Wade stayed home this morning so that we could all take Alex to school for his first day. The kids play on the playground until the bell rings. Then they line up and follow the teacher inside.
Then Teague and I went back home for about 30 minutes until it was time to take him. I ran just a few errands and then walked to school to pick up Alex. We stopped for lunch at Alterra on the way home.
After nap it was time to go get Teague. Then we had a playdate planned with Abram and Grant. Teague surprised me by hopping on the tricycle (which we just pulled down from the attic) and really moving. I knew he had pedaled occasionally before, but this time he really got it!
First day of K4 (or Junior Kindergarden as they call it here).
First day in the 2 year old class at Mother’s Day Out.
Our neighbor, Steve, hosts a Labor Day Picnic Jam every year. He has lots of musician friends and he gets them together to eat, play, and pick his grapes (he makes homemade wine). The party goes on most of the day and we planned to go after dinner. Alex and Teague kept themselves amused while Wade and I did our house projects. One of the ladies was nice enough to keep handing them snacks over the fence.
Peeking over the fence.
Last pool day of the season (for us – tomorrow is supposed to be a high of 70).
