Car wash kind of day.
A few weeks ago Alex wanted to dig in the backyard for buried treasure. Wade agreed and even supplied the shovel and wheelbarrow. When Alex was called away for a few minutes, Wade got the chocolate gold coins from our candy bowl and buried them a little deeper in Alex’s hole. Imagine Alex’s surprise when he actually found buried treasure! Today Alex and Riley decided to dig for buried treasure in the same spot. I had Nicki encourage the boys to take a water break and added a little “loot” to their hole. They were so excited when they found treasure. (Wade comes up with the best ideas!)
Brothers.
Joyride.
It’s official. Everyone on the street (including Grant) now knows how to operate the motorcycle. Look out pedestrians.
Backyard fun.
Backyard fun.
You take them to the park and the biggest hit is the water fountain…
Alex has an amazing memory (just like most young children). When we pulled in to B’s driveway he immediately began talking about dinosaur eggs (read here). If I had remembered then I would have brought the dinosaurs from last time (which haven’t been played with since that day). It didn’t happen the first day, but the second day of our visit Wade, Alex, and Teague went hunting for dinosaur eggs. Both boys brought back a carefully selected “egg” from the pond and hoped it would hatch. When it hadn’t hatched the next morning it was determined it wasn’t in the correct place to get enough sun. The “eggs” were moved and the next day the “eggs” cracked and dinosaurs appeared.
Alex was really sad when we finally had to say goodnight to his roly-poly bug and go inside.
Someone missed his car while we were gone.
We tried for a cousin picture again. Again Alex was pitching a fit at holding the baby (even with all the bribes we were offering). Wade plopped Mackenzie in Teague’s arms and he snuggled and cuddled and loved on her so sweetly. He held her gently and kissed her head. He never squeezed or moved enough to upset her or even change her position. Amazing!
Alex loved playing on the diving board but didn’t actually jump off of it – maybe next time he’ll be able to swim to the side.
B and lap full of grandkids.
This trip we tried sleeping Alex and Teague together in a king-sized bed. When we tucked them in last night they were on opposite sides, but they both slept the night through.
Otherwise we had a lazy, fun-filled day. Alex wanted to spend all day at the pool. Harper wanted to spend all day on the ponies. Teague was happy to do both.
S’mores.
Cousins (before all the adults are awake).
Muscle man. (There was a lot of extra toilet paper left over from the games at the holiday picnic and Wade put it to good use making Alex some “muscles”.)
Cowboy.
Waiting on customers.
Feeding the ducks (or rather the geese).
Alex and Teague have been so excited to see Gram. Alex even convinced Gram to sleep with him in the bunk beds last night. (Gram’s a sucker for a cute little boy!) She had bought a big bag of oranges and let the boys make fresh squeezed orange juice for breakfast. (Then we had to explain to both boys that the pulp wasn’t “Yuckies”. Pulp and sippy cups don’t mix so they’ve never had orange juice with pulp before.)
Then we headed to the park to feed the ducks. The ducks were in hiding and we found geese, which turned out to be a good thing. The geese had much better manners than the ducks and would calmly wait for the bread. The boys even met a nice family that ended up sharing their bread after we ran out.
After nap Gram surprised the boys with a lemonade stand. Alex had a blast pouring and Teague loved drinking – what a pair! The boys managed to leave a little lemonade for Aunt Lissy and Harper. One of Gram’s neighbor’s even came by in her shiny red convertible and took the kids for a drive around the block.
We made it to Gram’s house just in time for bed. Alex picked one of my childhood favorites – The Cat In The Hat Comes Back.
Teague’s first zoo class, Zoo Music, was a hit!
We’ve recently let Alex start staying up a little later than Teague at night. We read them both a few books and then put Teague to bed. Alex is allowed to “read” books for a little while on his own. Sometimes he comes to get us and sometimes we tell him when it is time to turn out the lights. Most nights he comes to get us within 10-15 minutes. Last night I looked up and realized he had been in his room reading for almost 45 minutes (and of course I had been reading my book that long too – oops).
When I look at this picture, I see Abram driving the rocketship and Alex in the passenger seat reading a book. That’s my boy!
I am amazed at the things Teague will let Alex do to him….
Today was pretty much spent with our neighbors. Abram and Grant came over for a few hours this morning while Amber ran out. Abram is such a good influence on Alex. He got these space suits for Christmas and hasn’t worn them once. (Abram has actually worn them several times.) Today Abram convinced Alex to put one on. The boys spent all morning blasting into space.
