We had an unusual Mother’s Day around our house. We got bundled up (or rather the boys did) to watch me run a Mother’s Day Race. Wade’s gift to me was an entry in the race – Run Like A Mother. It just might be my favorite Mother’s Day present of all time. A friend of a friend was also running so we met up and then off we went. This is only the second official race I have run (the first being the Color Run) and the first timed run. I was curious to get the timed information. I knew I ran the 3.1 miles faster than I normally do (and faster than I should have). The official results say I ran it in 28:26 which had me coming in 103 out of 460. Not too bad. And definitely a fun time!
I underestimated the weather a bit and was one of the few wearing shorts. Wade said it made it easy to pick me out of the crowd wearing pink shirts, but I definitely would have worn pants if I’d had a chance to do it again!
When Wade announces he is going to get a haircut, Alex always wants to go too. Alex has figured out he can take my iPad and get some solo game time (or rather any game time). Wade says he is quite content to just sit and play by himself. Today he evidently had another little boy interested in the monster truck game he was playing. Wade will occasionally ask him if he wants a haircut too, but he never does. He prefers to get his haircut at his normal place where he can also watch TV. Life is rough, right?
This post is long overdue. I sent a care package to Teague’s foster mother a few weeks after his second birthday (at the end of February). I had created a photo book from the moment we had gotten Teague in Korea through his second birthday. I also included a copy of the photographs taken by the photographer at the adoption agency in Korea, some “artwork” by Teague, and a few other gifts for the family. In late April I got the picture below of Teague’s foster mother (obviously with a new foster child).
Alex has a new job when it comes to getting in the car. He is to open his car door, get in, and have himself buckled by the time I get Teague in and walk around. Then all I have to do is tighten his buckles and we are ready to go. He is perfectly capable and it is a huge time saver! Best idea ever! (It started with him learning to open the car door and get in his seat. Then I didn’t have to worry about where he was in relation to moving cars in a parking lot.) I love having a four year old.
Today Teague officially became Teague Davis Burch! We had a court appointment for 8:30 to see the judge and make Teague’s adoption final. Unfortunately a case from the day before had run long and had to be completed first. After an hour of waiting we were finally called into the courtroom. Alex loved sitting in his own chair and answering a few questions. Teague wanted to be in my lap and sucked his thumb the entire time. The judge was fantastic. To make the adoption finalized the judge had us all come up to his chair and help Teague bang the gavel. The bailiff requested in a very stern voice to be given our camera and shown which button to push.
In an attempt to get serious about running, I finally went to a running store. They fitted me with running shoes and for the first time I am wearing Asics. I have seen what constitutes running shoes lately. I silently counted my lucky stars that I ended up with a pair predominately black and not neon orange (like two pairs she had me try on). I have run in the shoes for the last two weeks and can definitely tell that they fit my feet much better. Were they really worth double the price I normally pay? We’ll have to see.
