Teague had a rough night last night (we think he had a slight fever). He made up for it with today’s long nap – 5 hours.
Month: January 2013
At our last visit with Teague’s eye doctor he recommended we continue the eye patching. I do pretty well remembering to patch Teague’s eye every day. We are supposed to alternate which eye we patch so that I note on my calendar. The patch is supposed to stay on an hour and I have found it easiest to set the kitchen timer.
Tonight I was cooking dinner and when Alex heard the timer he yelled, “Time to take off Teague’s eye patch.” Obviously I don’t use the kitchen timer very often in my normal cooking routines.
Alex had a play dough construction site today.
Teague was momentarily intrigued by the play dough but quickly grew bored.
We played at Riley’s house this morning and came home with a “schoolbook.” (Riley had a duplicate book and gave Alex the extra copy.) Alex was so excited for his nap to be over so he could do his homework. This was a whole new world for Alex and he really enjoyed trying out writing his numbers and letters. We’ll see if the enthusiasm lasts till he starts K4 in the fall.
Bubble time.
Bubble time.
If you read the boys’ blog you have already seen one of these pictures. Here are a few more.
We have a lot of birthdays in our house in January and February so boxes have been arriving like crazy. I finally wrapped some gifts last night and had the boxes and an extra wrappign paper tube stacked up. Alex immediately set up the ship and asked me to make Moose into a sail. (Somebody is still very much into “Jake and the Neverland Pirates”)
Sailing on the open seas.
As much as it warms my heart to see how much Alex loves to read (and that Teague will immediately go get a book and join Alex), the mess he can make with his books while I am getting ready is getting old. Today we learned how to put all the books back on the bookshelves (or get them out one at a time).
Alex wanted to teach Teague the “booty bump” method of going down the stairs.
Dad promised to read this Calvin and Hobbes book to as soon as he gets home from work. Alex can’t wait.
I recently realized some big news in my life was never officially made public. I began my maternity leave last August. I doubted I would return to work, but I wasn’t quite ready to shut that door permanently. Because my work is project based and we are only paid for the work we do, vacation and leave are unlimited. I scheduled maternity leave till the beginning of January. Around Thanksgiving I received a call from the office asking if I had any thoughts about when I would return to work. I’m not sure if this was because they were understaffed or just curious. I decided it was as good a time as any to turn in my official notice. I haven’t regretted it once!
Fishin’
Cops and robbers.
I had pulled out my sock drawer to do some sorting when Teague woke up. I forgot about it and got into other things. Teague discovered it and had quite a bit of fun.
Bath time.
Bath time is so fun!
“But Mom, I need a snack right now.” (Not when you finish checking your email.)
All on his own Teague found this truck and it’s coordinating tool and got down to work. He didn’t quite manage to get the tire off, but he’s getting closer.
Shortly after bringing Teague home we noticed some bumps that would randomly appear and disappear on his skin. I asked the doctor and he told me they were most likely an allergic reaction to something. He also informed me that 90 percent of the time we never know what causes the reaction. He said the most common food allergy in children is eggs and recommended that we remove eggs from Teague’s diet for 2 weeks. I didn’t notice any change in the frequency of the bumps so the eggs came back (which is good because Teague loves eggs). At this point I was trying to be very aware of what I fed Teague and when the bumps would appear. We were at Yo Mama when he suddenly got them on his face (which was rare). I thought – maybe strawberries. That weekend he had a strawberry nutrigrain bar and his lip was extremely swollen for over 24 hours. I thought I might have figured it out. How easy life would be if his allergy was strawberries!
Teague hasn’t had a hint of strawberry in almost a month. I put three slices on his ice cream tonight and he didn’t have a single bump. There goes that theory….
Alex couldn’t wait to play with Daddy and beat him three times in a row.
Ice cream was the perfect treat for everyone tonight!
Alex and I have played games before, but this is the first “real” board game we have successfully played. (Thanks Granny and Pop.)
Teague’s determined to change that tire.
Undecorating.
Shower envy.
Alex got these diggers for Christmas and I just happened to have a bag of rice (thank you Nicki) ready to make into a sensory box.
