Today was slightly chilly and rainy. We spent the day inside with a roaring fire. Tabit normally spends her days outside, but I found her in her favorite bed (under my bench) and Madison wanted to spend the day in my lap.
Month: May 2012
Today’s favorite game was “Ghost”.
Amber invited all the neighbors to one of her friend’s party. Admission to the party was an original piece of artwork (turned in beforehand so they could be displayed anonymously). I’m sure you can guess which one is mine and which was Wade’s. (For humor’s sake, I will point out that the pieces weren’t judged. When Wade found this out he was quite upset and decided to add the ribbon.)
Construction work requires intense concentration.
Our new trend is to have a couple from church over on Friday evening. That normally means multiple kids and quite a bit of chaos (but fun chaos). Alex was quite adamant that “Holley Shiftwell” help me cook (Although she lives in Alex’s car basket, she was a birthday gift to me from Alex.) We had everything on the table pretty quickly and the boys even got to sit by themselves.
This toy from McDonald’s has provided fun all day long.

Discussing the reason for a timeout.
Alex loves his cars. Lately he’s been wanting to take them outside. I’m a little too much of a perfectionist to want all his shiny new cars scratched and banged up on the concrete. I’ve been looking for a good deal on craigslist and finally found one! Over 300 cars (way more than we need) for $15. The cars were obviously well loved, but that’s perfect for outside cars.
Then I got industrious and tried to recreate a pintrest idea. (Mine still needs a little work – and some more gravel!)
Alex got a bin of new (old) cars and is in little boy heaven.
You think baseball when you see this picture, right?
Alex calls it “bat ball”
For lunch today, I made Cooking Light’s Avocado Chicken Salad. It was fantastic! I couldn’t wait for dinner so I could eat it again.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
3/8 teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups shredded chicken
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
3/4 cup refrigerated fresh salsa*
1 ripe avocado, peeled and chopped
1. Combine first 4 ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring with a whisk. Add chicken and cilantro; toss to combine. Gently fold in salsa and avocado. Serve with chips.
*I substituted pico de gallo for the salsa.
