Today started out just like any other. Alex was in good humor and happy to enjoy our nice weather outside.
Month: January 2012
A little under the weather but determined to play.
We have two birthdays in our house right after Christmas (Wade – 1/17 and Alex – 2/11). I normally end up shopping for Wade’s Birthday at the same time I shop for his Christmas. Alex’s I just seem to accumulate year long and then break up into Christmas and Birthday. This year they both seem to have a number of good-size boxes and I am having trouble hiding them. I decided the easiest solution was to go ahead and wrap. Now I’m actually ahead!
Snuggling with Daddy on the couch (and watching Top Gear).
Who knew a bucket could be so fun?
One of my favorite parts of the day is when I start to cook dinner and Alex plays with his cars in the kitchen. This doesn’t happen daily for numerous reasons, but it’s so fun to listen to Alex “talk” for the cars and see what new scheme he dreams up. Today there were lots of races and crashes – and a constant need for a tow truck. (I was also informed he needs a tow truck for his birthday, Mater, the big one, with eyes and teeth, from the store.)
More snow play. Too bad we don’t really have any snow yet.
The snowfall was minimal, but Alex couldn’t wait to shovel.
Madison is a pretty good sport during Christmas when we take away one (of four) pillow for the Christmas Tree. I cleaned up Christmas today and the minute I put her pillow back she was curled up.
(Alex was not at all happy about taking down Christmas and shed a few tears over the Christmas tree going outside.)
Alex was content to play trains for most of the day. Wade even built him a new track.
Wade was on a roll today. He worked on three projects (some of which I have been wanting for YEARS). First up was this cabinet space at our backdoor. When we moved in it was unfinished, dirty, and obviously housed boots. Wade finished off the inside (I still need to paint) and installed baskets for hats/gloves and most likely grilling supplies.
Sometime during our last three years in this house, we managed to short the light in the closet of my office. This doesn’t sound too bad, but Wade has tried numerous times to trace it and been unsuccessful. This closet happens to be under the stairs and is therefore rather deep. Not having light makes the back part of the closet almost impossible to use. I came home from the gym to find Wade had fixed the light! (I also realized we have way too much in the closet. The second picture is only half of it…)
My favorite project (and the longest lasting) is the storm windows for our sunroom. I have been working on these since 2009 and finally finished my part of sanding and painting this year. Wade had glass measured and cut. Then he spent quite a bit of time repairing the wood and glazing the windows. I did a little more touch up paint and we put them up today!
