I posted a few weeks ago about looking for a photographer on Craig’s List. I got a ton of responses, but one I couldn’t turn down. Ryan Lettau offered to photograph Alex for free if he could use the pictures in his portfolio. He normally does architecture photographs and was looking to branch out to portraits. I think we got some great pictures!

The last few weeks Alex has been waking up much more frequently at night (from once a night to three times). He would take some of a bottle and then go back to sleep. This week he has a runny nose, which is odd for my boy who has never been sick. Now it all makes sense. I was letting him chew on my finger and felt something sharp. His bottom two front teeth are coming in. Overall he doesn’t seem to have a lot of problems with teething. He was happy to play while I was working:
This afternoon he and Madison watched while I put another coat of paint on the storm windows. (I did pay painters but I am a little too picky for my own good. When I looked at them closer I thought they weren’t quite right.)
He’s teething! I felt two sharp points today.
Trying out the swings. I was never sure if he liked them or not.
Everything – yes, everything goes into his mouth.
I can’t believe I forgot to post this, but our cars got broken into a few days ago. Both of them were in the driveway and unlocked. (Mine is almsot always locked, but Wade had pulled it in for me and he doesn’t lock his.) We were lucky and the theives appeared to be quite stupid. They got my $20 I keep in the change drawer and Wade’s iPod receiver. They missed his GPS and brand-new drill. They missed my iPod and purposely left my iPod receiver (we later found out they got two next door). The garage and house were unlocked. You would think we learned our lesson in Anderson, but obviously not. The police came, but basically said they won’t be doing anything. He did tell me that about 10 cars within two blocks were broken into. Geez.
Today was a get-it-done day. Wade put a new door knob on the garage door so that it actually shuts and could be locked, fixed Madison’s outdoor self-watering bowl, repaired some exterior lights, pulled weeds, and thought about mowing the lawn. We took down our wood back door (now that we have the storm door) and I worked on refinishing the interior side. I can’t thank Jerry enough for introducing me to Formby’s Furniture Refinisher. It removes alligatoring like a charm!
Alex was great today, but very out of character. He took four naps totalling 6.5 hours. Of course he did wake up at 5 am and we had him on the go all day yesterday. It did allow us to get a lot done and take a long nap too!
Alex can keep his balance sitting up (most of the time).
Wade read an article in USA Today about Mustard Day. Being the crazy people we are, we decided to go. I noticed Mount Horeb was fairly close to Nicki’s Diapers in New Glarus so we decided to make a day of it.
We started off around 11:30 and stopped for Arby’s in Madison. There was a gorilla statue in the parking lot – no idea why. Of course we had to have a picture:
Then we were headed to New Glarus. I bought some new diapers and needed items while Wade discovered the local firefighters were having a celebration. We joined in the fun for a few minutes before loading back up in the car:
Twenty minutes later we were in Mount Horeb. We quickly found the Mustard Day celebration:
We found all kinds of games (Mustard Fishing, Mustard Bowling, and Mustard Finger Painting):
There were lots of small booths with taste testing along the way. The festival is sponsered by Oscar Meyer, but we arrived after all of the free hot dogs were given out:
Next stop was the Mustard Museum:
No event is complete without a mascot so we got a picture:
At this point we decided we needed some real food. We checked Yelp for something good in Madison and ended up at Smoky Jon’s No. 1 BBQ – a wonderful BBQ restaurant (Wade might not say “wonderful” but he would give it high marks – especially for the area):
We also found Bluephies and tried their desserts. Wade had the apple crisp and I had the fried chocolate chip cookie dough wonton – yum!
