Toadfrogs

Not A TextBook Case

It turns out I am going to have a very odd delivery story. Disclaimer – if you don’t want any details just read the summary at the bottom. I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and the doctor seemed quite surprised to find me 4 cm dilated. I had been having some random discomfort, but nothing I realized were consistent contractions. Those continued most of yesterday and then quit around 8 pm. About 4:30 am I thought my water broke and called the nurses. They said to come on in. Once there I continued to confuse the entire staff. My water had not broken, but I was now 5 cm dilated. They decided to keep me around for a while. About 10 am, my doctor examined me and said I was 5.5 cm dilated, but she was sending me home. Now I am home and feeling no pain or tightening or discomfort of any kind. My mom (the retired OB/pediatrics nurse) says she never heard of them sending people home at 5.5 cm, but she has also never heard of someone getting to that point with virtually no pain either. Oh well. Now we play the waiting game.

Summary – I have been back to the hospital, and labor is progressing, but in days not hours. I am now back home and no baby yet.

  1. oh my gosh!!! i’ll be thinking of you!! let me know if you need anything!

  2. Can I say this is EXACTLY what happened to me? No contractions, water broke, hospital said it had not. I went home but was concerned so went back to my doctor the next day, and he said it had indeed broken and I needed to go in after all. They did a sonogram and the baby was breech with not much water left so we had a c-section. I still had never had any contractions. I had planned this wonderful natural birth! I guess God has different plans sometimes. It worked out fine.

  3. Girl we are praying for you guys! I know we aren’t right next door but if we can help in any way let us know. XO

  4. Good luck – I’ll be looking forward to happy news from you two!

  5. Meghann Donohue

Holly – my baby beat yours! Long story, but I ended up having my baby last Monday 6 weeks early. I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, and we tried to induce for a natural delivery, but the baby was on a fetal monitor and ended up being in fetal distress. So I ended up with a C-section by the end of the night. It was the most stressful day of my life, but can I just say, looking back, the C-section wasn’t too bad? Of course, little Druan Patrick Donohue is still in the NICU and is doing really great, but needs to learn to eat better before being sent home. So your baby might be early, but he won’t be nearly that early and he should be fine. I hope everything goes well for you and I am jealous that it seems like you’ll have a chance for a vaginal delivery. It does seem weird they sent you home when you were so far along. . . keep us updated and good luck!

  6. Good Luck Wade and Holly! I can’t wait for him to get here…I have his present all ready to go, now we just need a baby!
We have news of our own and for the life of me I can’t track Wade down to tell him personally so you’re finding out here….we got engaged this weekend! YAY!
Well, I can’t wait until your little guy to make his appearance. Keep us posted!
    XoXo, Cj and Kyle

  7. You stinker! What an easy sounding story and I can’t believe your tummy is so little! You’ll be wearing your pre-Alexander clothes home from the hospital! 🙂 Congratulations, can’t wait to get your full delivery story here! Love you!

  8. Meghann – wow! Congratulations on Druan, but what a crazy story! I’m glad to hear it sounds like he is going to be fine. Will you send me a picture? Alex has arrived – I had a really really fast delivery at 12:57 this morning. I only started feeling contractions at midnight, but I’m not complaining.

  9. Christin – congratulations to you and Kyle! Now we have two things to celebrate – Alex arrived at 12:57 am!

  10. Johnna – they were laughing at me in the hospital. The nurses would look at my tummy and say it is all baby. There was no doubt where his butt was or his legs – they poked out and made these really weird bulges. In fact, the top monitor is sitting on his butt in this picture.
