Traveling is Never Easy

My dad and Laura wanted to take all of the kids on a vacation – to Exuma, Bahamas. Wade and I quickly said yes and made plans accordingly. The trip started today with an early flight out of Atlanta. To make things easier on ourselves, we drove down last night and stayed in a hotel near the airport. We got our car parked, bags checked, through security, and onto the plane without incidence. We arrived in Miami and met up with the rest of the group in time for a quick bite to eat. Then the fun started.

We were taking a small plane to Exuma and had to ride a bus to get to the plane. We all boarded the bus, boarded the plane, sat while a hydraulic line was replaced, and then got back on the bus when the entire brake line had to be replaced. We once again boarded the bus and then sat beside a plane for 10 minutes. Then we rode the bus back to the terminal. A third time we boarded the bus, then we boarded the plane, and then we took off! We arrived in Exuma with only a couple hours of delay. Check out the view from the plane:

Wade and I had time for a quick walk on the beach before dinner on the beach with a great lightning show in the background.

Hello JumpStart – I mean Jasper

Wade and I got home from work today to find a friend waiting for us. I named the cute kitten Jasper and Wade named him JumpStart. He visited while we grilled dinner and loaded up the car. Then he disappeared. I’m trying to convince Wade to let us keep him if he’s still around when we return from our trip. I’m not too hopeful.

Beach Trip Number 1

Wade and I spent the weekend with an old college friend we keep in touch with, a college friend we don’t keep in touch with, a girl we met once while in college, and a girl we’ve never met before. We had an awesome time! Daniel Chandler (the college friend we do keep in touch with) and his girlfriend, Karen, planned a trip to Destin for the week. Wade and I are short on vacation days so we joined the group for Thursday night through Sunday. Adam Alexander (the college friend I haven’t seen since college) and his new bride, Liz, also joined the group for the end of the week.

We spent the days on the beach and the nights playing Wii. The boys tried to boogie board and played games of Bocce in the sand. The girls read and talked and got to know each other. The drive down was another 8 hour marathon trip, but the vacation was definitely worth it!
Not to mention the sun – I got tan!

Madison Gets the Leftovers

When it comes to Wade and me, I am much more likely to give Madison what she wants – especially with food. She just has to sit or do a trick and I’ll give her a bite. I walked in last night to see Wade had given Madison much more than a bite. He’d given her what was left of the whole turkey breast he cooked.

Is it any wonder that Wade told me Madison woke him up sick twice last night?

We Found a Contractor

Wade does 99% of all our house work and remodeling. The downstairs bathroom he decided was too much. Then started the hunt for a contractor. It’s difficult when you are new to the area to find reputable contractors willing to work on small projects for reasonable money and do a good job. When we were looking at the investment property, Wade called a local supply store and asked for a recommendation.

The contractor showed up on time, was knowledgeable, and honest. The realtor knew him from previous work and only had great things to say about him. Well Steve, the contractor, came today to look at our bathroom. He says he can do the job by Christmas. Here’s hoping his quote is within the ballpark we are looking to pay.

Goodbye pink and blue bathroom!

I’ve Been Hacked

It turns out there was not a problem with the server for my website. Someone hacked my website. My genius husband figured this out and then figured out how to fix all the damage. He says all this happened because he didn’t upgrade my software (tsk, tsk tech support husband). The good news (for me) is now he has to upgrade and I’ll get some cool new features. Hopefully the upgrade will take place in the next few weeks. It may require a different look for the website, but the URL will still be the same.

Moving Day

Wade and I planned to help a friend move today. Mandy (a friend from church) had emailed and asked for help moving from Fletcher to Greenville. We happily offered up our assistance for Saturday. On Friday, Mandy called and asked if we would just help unload the truck at the storage facility. We told her we were ready and willing to show up wherever we were needed. The actual unloading of the truck only took a short time. Then we returned to the Floyds’ house for Zaxby’s, cooling off, and chatting. What a nice fun day. The heat sure zapped our energy though. It’s time for a nap.

My Favorite Dessert

I actually have quite a few favorite desserts – most of them have large quantities of chocolate. But one of my most favorite desserts is Red’s Peach Pie. I’m sure peach pie is much healthier than the other desserts – it does have fruit. I won’t think about the sugar, cream cheese, cool whip, etc. My mom always makes this particular pie and when I visited home a few weeks ago she had one waiting for me. I think part of what makes this pie so special is that fresh peaches are needed and they are only in season a short time. Now that I have mentioned my pie, I am going to share the recipe. Peaches are still in season – I had one last night.

By the way, Mom who is Red?
*Recipe coming later tonight.*

Road Trip

Wade and I spent most of the summer at home, but our weekend trips have begun. We left work early on Friday and started our second drive in a couple weeks to Paducah. This drive was much better – no rain, no traffic, no trailer. But 8 hours in the car is still 8 hours. We got home in time to have dinner at Chong’s with mom.

Saturday was spent trying to squeeze a bunch of errands into a few hours. We moved a couch, saw the Upshaws’ new house, sold a chandelier, did some shopping, and had lunch at El Chico. Then Wade went to his grandparents and mom and I did some serious shopping. How strange is it that Paducah has a Limited (my current favorite store for dress pants) and Greenville doesn’t?

I joined Wade at his grandparents’ house in time for dinner. Wade had spent the day doing chores – installing a new garbage disposal, fixing the phone, fixing the answering machine, repairing the wind chimes, etc. We all went out for dinner at Olive Garden (Papa’s pick) and then visited till bed time. Madison got quite a bit of attention and more than enough scraps from Granny and Papa.

Sunday came a little too early. Madison decided 6:30 was a good time to want to go outside. At home she sleeps till 9! We joined Granny and Papa for church and then began the long drive home.

To Buy a House or Not?

Wade and I noticed this cute house for sale in our neighborhood. We looked it up and realized it was very small (only 1200 sq. ft) and very cheap. Wade has always been interested in having rental property so we went to look at the house. It needed a lot of work but we were seriously considering the purchase when someone else put in a contract. We figured it wasn’t meant to be and moved on. Then the contract fell through and the house came back on the market. We got serious again and figured out a budget and had a contractor come to give an estimate on the work that would need to be done. In the end we decided not to invest, but we did find a contractor (maybe I’ll finally get my bathroom done)!

Some Days I Am A Typical Girl

Most days I would consider being called a typical girl an insult. But I have to admit when Wade handed me the traditional Tiffany’s blue box before dinner the other night, I had a typical girl reaction and was very excited. We had talked about not doing gifts this year but taking a trip. Last week Wade told me he had gotten me something “small”. It turns out it was small in size, not simply a token gift.

I opened the box to see the silver earrings I had fallen in love with a few months ago. I had added them to my “Want List” but not given them another thought. I figured I would be lucky if someone got them for me for Christmas. What a pleasant surprise to get them for my anniversary. Thanks Wade – you are the best!

Boiler Room

Wade and I tried a new church today. The first round of songs were good, the sermon was interesting, and then it went downhill. The song leader got extremely emotional (to the point of not being able to understand his words) and the singing went on and on and on. I think we will not be going back.

The meeting tonight, however, was great. When Wade and I first joined the host team at Catalyst Church, the group met every other week for potluck and Bible study at a member’s house. For various reasons, this meeting eventually came to an end. Wade and I (and a few other couples) have decided to bring back the potluck and time of sharing. The group is called “The Boiler Room” from the book Red Moon Rising – see Wade’s logo below:

Our mission statement is “Connect with others. Share our experience. Support the Kingdom” and we plan to meet the first and third Sunday evening of every month. If you are in the area, just email for directions. Tonight we grilled out, got to know the new faces, discussed the book mentioned above, and generally had a fun time.

Three Years of Bliss

Well maybe it hasn’t all been bliss, but definitely an adventure. Our three year anniversary is coming up this week. We decided to celebrate a little early and spend the weekend in Greenville. Wade got us a very cool round hotel room on the Reedy River (also the park with the cool suspension bridge).

We spent the day running errands and then had an early dinner at High Cotton. The food was good, but I don’t know that I would choose to go back anytime soon. I had one of the volcano chocolate cakes for dessert and I have to admit that the ones Laura made a while ago were much better. After dinner, Wade and I strolled in the park and took a few pictures:

Madison Tries to Snuggle In

Madison and I have no problems sharing the couch. Wade and I have no problems sharing the couch. Wade and Madison have lots of problems sharing the couch. Madison always wants to be where Wade is (not necessarily a particular side). As soon as he edges closer to the front of the couch she burrows behind him and tries to push him off. As you can see, Wade is not amused.

I Miss the Lake

I had my second outing for the year on the lake tonight. I think I mentioned before that Wade and I had been helping a lady work on her house. The lady, Bette Ann, invited us for a boat ride after work. Wade got stuck at the doctor’s office so he had to meet us for dinner and only got half the ride I did. I love being on the water. What a nice relaxing way to end the work day!
