Alaska – Day One

During the night our boat had left Juneau and was sailing north. We saw lots of Humpback whales and Killer Whales near our ship. Trying to take a picture at the exact moment the whale breaches is close to impossible so I just enjoyed the sight.

Our first stop on the cruise was Elfin Cove. Elfin Cove is an isolated boardwalk community in the Southeast Alaska that can only be accessed by sea plane or boat. There are no roads or cars. The community has a population of 250 in the summer and only 10 in the winter. I am in awe of the type of people who decide to live this type of life, but it definitely is not for me. There was a single store which had a very limited amount of groceries – the prices of which were sky high!

As with most cruises, there was a formal Captain’s Welcome Aboard Dinner. Everyone got dressed up and the seasickness patches Emily, Wade, and Judy are wearing seem to be working.

Happy Birthday Johnna!
